"As Morning Turns To Day" |

Jeel started out under the name of “Jeg Er En Lampe”, but, despite the name, worked seriously as a band with their practice and the eternal hunt for a contract. 2 demos and 3 releases is what they’ve managed so far. Jeel haven’t been very active the last couple of years. Last album was released 02/28-2000 - “As morning tusn to day” was recorded in Aabenraa Studios with Jacob Hansen and guitarist Mikkel Westenholtz at the controls. The album contains 12 songs which all got that cool and a little dirty garage sound. The tempo is not terrible fast, but the energy and the raw power in the ever growling vocal, the guitar which sounds like expected - brutal, raw and without the smallest hint of pink fluffy pop and what’s worse. Evil, violent, moody is labels which fits much better. It’s a shame I didn’t get to see Jeel live while they were still together as a band, because I think a gig would have been great experience. It’s hard not to bang your head just a little bit while listening, but I have to hold back. Otherwise it wouldn’t be possible to write this review of an album which is already a couple of years old. Googling didn’t give any hints about what Jeel are doing today. |

The album is inviting you to turn up the volume and give the base a couple of notches. It’s music which is pulling you in and when that happens you can do nothing but turn it up. Good music are supposed to be loud and Jeel has done a real good job putting this album together. There’s no doubt this is a very well produced album, the sound is balanced and not one single thing I can put my finger on. Not one single instrument is taking up too much space, or too little. This album belongs in a collection of trash and death metal. Horns up for Jeel - even though the album is a couple of years old it’s still working well. In style they’re not so far from Artillery and their “Fear of Tomorrow” which was released in 1800 something. No overproduced, remixed, computer generated sound, but raw and heavy like our grandparents liked it. If you find anything Jeel, grab it and play it loud. It might be old, but it’s worth it. |
