02 JOHN CORABI Leaves BRIDES OF DESTRUCTION

Former MÖTLEY CRÜE singer John Corabi has announced that he is leaving BRIDES OF DESTRUCTION — the band formed by MÖTLEY CRÜE bassist Nikki Sixx and L.A. GUNS guitarist Tracii Guns — to pursue a solo career. "It's amicable," says Corabi. "We're still friends, I am just really excited about the songs I've been writing and want to get a jump on my solo career."

Says Nikki Sixx, "I have known John for years, we worked together on a MÖTLEY CRÜE album and we've had a blast working with him in the BRIDES OF DESTRUCTION. We wish John nothing but the best. Besides, John just kicks ass as a songwriter and we can't wait to hear what he does next."

BRIDES OF DESTRUCTION — Sixx, Guns, Scott Coogan (drums), and London LeGrand (vocals) — are about to begin recording their debut album that will be out later this year.

Among the tracks tentatively set to appear on the CD are the following:

01. I Don't Care
02. Shut The Fuck Up!
03. Life…
04. 2 X Dead (Goin' Out)
05. Brace Yourself
06. NBK
07. Only Get So Far
08. My Revolution
09. I Got A Gun
04 CANNIBAL CORPSE To Enter Studio In September

Veteran death metallers CANNIBAL CORPSE are tentatively set to enter Sonic Ranch Studios in El Paso, Texas in September to record their new album, due in early 2004 through Metal Blade Records. The follow-up to last year's "Gore Obsessed" CD will once again be produced by Neil Kernon, who had previously worked with QUEENSRŸCHE, NEVERMORE and JUDAS PRIEST, among others.
08 GENE SIMMONS: EDDIE VAN HALEN Wanted To Join KISS!

Gene Simmons has refuted a claim made by former VAN HALEN singer David Lee Roth in his autobiography "Crazy From The Heat" that Gene tried to split up the group in the mid-1970s by offering guitarist Eddie Van Halen a spot in KISS as a replacement for Ace Frehley.

Responding to a fan letter in the "Letters" section of his official web site, Simmons stated that "I discovered VAN HALEN playing at the Starwood in LA. I flew them to NY and produced their demo at Electric Lady studios. I bought David leather pants and stacked heels. I tried to get management and my own band to get involved.

"Management, in particular, didn't get it. So I gave VAN HALEN back their signed deal with me and told them after the upcoming Love Gun Tour, I would turn my attention back to them, but that in the meantime, they were free to get their own deal, if they could. No strings attached.

"They were signed to Warner Bros. Records right away. The rest is history.

"Now, on to David's quotes: No. I never tried to get Edward into KISS. In point of fact, by 1982, Ed was so sick of working with David, that he visited me at Record Plant studios in LA to ask me if he could join KISS. But, in 1977, there was certainly no talk of anyone leaving VAN HALEN. They seemed to be getting along well in those days."
11 SHARON OSBOURNE: Cancer-Free, Working On Talk Show, OZZY Biopic

Sharon Osbourne has been declared cancer-free and is working on the launch of her syndicated one-hour talk show, "The Sharon Osbourne Show", which is slated to hit the small screen this fall. In addition, Sharon and Ozzy are in negotiations with Paramount Pictures and MTV Films to bring Ozzy's life story to the movies.

The film is expected to tell the tale of the singer's rise from humble beginnings to stardom in BLACK SABBATH, his solo success, his struggles with drugs and alcohol, and his reinvention as a cuddly, cussin' patriarch of "The Osbournes", according to MTV.com. Spokespeople for the Osbournes and MTV Films said talks are in the early stages, with no writer, director or actors approached yet. Last October, Sharon told the Hollywood Reporter that she hoped she could hire Johnny Depp to play Ozzy. "I have a dream of who it could be, but I don't know if he'll do it," she said. "He's a brilliant actor."
16 TYPE O NEGATIVE's STEELE Calls New Album 'A Sonic Legacy Of Past Mistakes'

TYPE O NEGATIVE frontman Peter Steele claims that the group's upcoming album, "Life Is Killing Me", does not represent an attempt to replicate the group's past works. "That style of songwriting is still in me and I like the songs from those albums, whereas I am less fond of [1999's] 'World Coming Down', since it reminds me of things I was involved in at the time." Steele further reveals that staple TYPE O issues of "self pity," "hatred," "drugs and death," "religion," and "the usual" are all a part of the lyrical tapestry of "Life Is Killing Me". He contends that the album is less depressing than its predecessor, with less dirges and different songwriting styles. He elaborates, "There are three types of songwriting: one is hardcore/punk, almost like party punk. The other is the older style of goth-metal that we have always done. The third is a combo of '60s and '80s type of songwriting." He concludes, with tongue planted firmly in cheek, that "'Life Is Killing Me' is a sonic legacy of past mistakes."

Self-deprecation aside, Steele is forthright and open when discussing his latest creations (or mistakes, depending on who you ask in the band!) Regarding specific songs on the album, TYPE O chose to cover a song from "Hedwig And The Angry Inch" musical, to illustrate its infamous sense of humor. "It's about a transvestite who goes in for sex change and the doctors fuck it up. I thought it would be fun to play it live, because we sped it up a little to make more punky." The song "I Like Girls" is Steele's response to homosexuals who try to pick him up. "Whether a man or woman finds me attractive, I take it as a compliment, although I am more flattered when it's a woman. Thanks for the invite, but I like girls.' The song is punky and I am sure that it's going to be misconstrued, so we're going to be prepared." "Nettie" centers around Steele's mother, while "Above All Things" is about his father. "How Could She?" finds Steele asking all of his favorite female TV characters, cartoon or human, a question. "I mention every single one from Edith Bunker to Judy Jetson, all who I encountered when sitting in front of the TV, eating a TV dinner." "A Dish Best Served Cold" is self-described revenge anthem.

TYPE O continues the time-honored tradition of producing its own albums at Systems Two in its homestead of Brooklyn, in the interest of avoiding "outside tentacles." Both Steele and keyboardist Josh Silver helmed "Life Is Killing Me". "I want to hear what is going on in my ears, what I hear in my head," says Steele. "I am not talking about the 'voices' I hear. I am talking about getting as close to my goal as possible. Within this band, the four guys are married to each other and the cap is always left off the toothpaste. We don't need a fifth clown coming in. At 41 years old, having been in bands for 30 years right now, I know how to get what I want, musically. Lastly and leastly, there is financial incentive for producing my flesh ourselves, and not just because we can walk away with chump change, but because anyone we'd like to hire would cost half a million dollars. There goes all my drug money for the year. That can't happen."

Steele doesn't cite any new influences on "Life Is Killing Me". Other than calling himself an audio plagiarist, Steele admits he still listens to the same music that he always has, such as "early '70s metal, psychadelic '60s, '90s trans-dance shoegazer stuff. It's the basic inspiration comes from my feelings. I'm on a constant search for new and interesting ideas, which I am not usually successful at."

TYPE O NEGATIVE's "Life Is Killing Me" is due this summer through Roadrunner Records.
19 ANATHEMA Prepare To Record New Album

ANATHEMA guitarist Daniel "Danny" Cavanagh has posted the following message to the band's official web site:

"The demos for the next album(s) are coming along well. [Bassist] Jamie [Cavanagh] arrives in England today 29th of March to start rehearsals for the gigs and for the albums too. He has some great new material. Similarly do the rest of the guys. There is such a wealth of songs that our biggest difficulty is gonna be to make one album from all the great stuff on offer. Not sure of the title yet, but the plan is to make it this year in time for an autumn release. Song titles include: 'The Natural Disaster', 'Closer', and 'Flying'. We are getting along very well now and the albums should be strong when they are done. We hope to go into a studio in May/June for a couple of weeks, mapping out everything that we have, jamming live and just generally being creative. After that, we'll see what the best album we can make is, and go forward to do that."

28 KING'S X To Issue Reworked Versions Of Early Originals - Apr. 23, 2003

KING'S X will release a new studio album, entitled "Black Like
Sunday", on May 20 through Brop!/ Metal Blade Records.

The CD features freshly-recorded songs written and performed live more than 20 years ago, well before the band changed their name to KING'S X and landed their first record deal. The group used two different names during this period.

Longtime fans had kept asking vocalist/guitarist Ty Tabor, vocalist/bass guitarist Doug Pinnick and vocalist/drummer Jerry Gaskill to bring these songs back to life by finally recording and releasing them, and the band
decided the time was right.

The complete track listing for "Black Like Sunday" is as follows:

01. Johnny
02. Bad Luck
03. Danger Zone
04. Finished
05. Won't Turn Back
06. Screamer
07. Rock Pile
08. Working Man
09. Save Us
10. Down
11. Two
12. You're the Only One
13. Dreams
14. Black Like Sunday

"These songs are from our first seven years as a band, and most are from between 1980 and 1983. We were based in Springfield, MO, and it was a really healthy market for original music," Tabor said in an official press release. "There was a really intelligent group of music listeners there. I attribute that to Springfield being a college town. There were about nine colleges around. I think it's really unusual to have a city embrace original music any time, any place.

"All of the biggest bands in Springfield did their own tunes. We were scared at first because there were no mediocre bands. The competition was awesome," Tabor recalled. "Bands did make their own records, were getting their songs on local radio and were getting those records in local stores.

"We did one record back then, but we didn't like it at all and weren't involved in the mixing. We did give copies away free at shows because we didn't want it sold in stores!"

"We've written hundreds of songs over the years and as we kept writing new ones others got left behind. Our song turnover was really fast. But every batch of new songs had a couple of fan favorites in them. We wouldn't really look back, but sometimes parts of songs would get used. With the knowledge we have now, we don't mind going back to rediscover these songs. We're harder on ourselves now, and we've learned many things over the years.

"As for the songs for this record, there were some obvious ones that had stuck in our minds. We always find ourselves on the same page. The songs have not changed very much. The first day or two that we went through our old tapes of these songs we realized the original ideas are better than we thought they were. One thing we discovered was that it was more time-consuming to go back to these songs than it would have been to write a new record."

KING'S X will embark on a U.S. tour with FISHBONE this spring and summer.
29 DEATH ANGEL Announce West Coast Dates

29 BIOHAZARD: 'There Is No Honor In Slaughtering The Innocent'

BIOHAZARD have posted a message on their official web site clarifying their stance on the war in Iraq.

The group's statement reads as follows:

"To our friends everywhere,

"Recently, we've been bombarded with questions regarding BIOHAZARD's stance on the war in Iraq. In regards to that, let us remind everyone that we have been traveling this planet playing our music and trying to identify with people in crisis everywhere, for the last 14 or so years. We've been to Croatia, Yugoslavia, Russia, Israel, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Mexico, Taiwan, Japan, Germany, Canada, the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, etc. etc... as well as having traveled the USA extensively in cars, vans, and buses. We've learned through personal experience that people are the same everywhere, regardless of race, creed, color, or religious beliefs. We all feel the same hate, love, pleasure, and pain. We all want to be free to live our lives the way we see fit. We all have our good and bad times. And we hope that we all have the best intentions for our fellow human beings in mind. With that being said, we feel deep sadness watching the governments of our planet manipulate us into hating each other. We should welcome our cultural differences, not hate each other for them. We should pray for a quick end to this horrible, confusing war. We should pray for an end to the killing. And we should pray for the safety of everyone fighting for freedom against oppressive governments everywhere. Like it says in the liner notes of our new CD, 'There is no honor in slaughtering the innocent.' Forever misquoted and misunderstood, BIOHAZARD."

JANE'S ADDICTION To Release New Single

JANE'S ADDICTION are set to release a new single to radio within the next two weeks. Among the tracks being considered for the occasion are "The Price I Pay", "Just Because", "The Riches", and "To Match The Sun".

Frontman Perry Farrell said he wrote "To Match The Sun" about keeping his heart in touch with his wife while he was on the road.

"I took my wife to the... We went to the sunset and I told her that, 'Let's watch the sun go down and let's match our heartbeats to the sun," he said. "And so the next time, even though I'll be away tomorrow, when you go down to the sunset tomorrow you will know that at least our hearts are at least matched together. And we'll watch the... The sun will go down together, because if we sync our hearts up with the sun, we'll be in sync.'"

JANE'S ADDICTION will release their first studio album in almost 13 years, titled "Hypersonic", in mid-July through an as-yet-undisclosed major label. Said Farrell: "I think musicians have a biological clock, like baby makers. You know in your tummy when you're music needs to come out, when it would be critical to get together and make your best music. We just felt it was time to get serious and pop out more records."
