KATAKLYSM

Have a look at the new Kataklysm-cover for "Shadows & Dust" to the right! First advance reviews turn out great, check what Mitch Joel (Circus magazine / Hour magazine / Revolver online) did write:

"Like true Gladiators, Shadows And Dust tears at you with violent power, crude anger and the barefaced truth of somebody with nothing to lose. A hailstorm of musical swords, without the sorcery, Kataklysm are primed to'Face The Face Of War' with their latest. This is a furious speed freak with enough doom and gloom to lock and load you for many years to come. Think In Flames huffing gas while classic Priest blares in the background. Shadows And Dust is beauty from a world viewed with revulsion and malice. Unlike anything they've done and a true succession, Kataklysm, once again, take the heaviest of music and add true weight and consequence."

STRATOVARIUS
have finished recording the drums, guitars and bass for their forthcoming album, entitled Elements Part I, and are presently in the process of laying down keyboard and vocal tracks. One of the cuts to be included on the CD, "Stratofortress", is said to have turned out to be " the most difficult song to record because of its speed," according to the group's official web site.
"It took 6 hours for [bassist] Jari Kainulainen to record the bass parts 'Stratofortress' alone and a whole day for
[guitarist] Timo Tolkki to do the guitar parts". Stratovarius
As previously reported, Elements Part I is set for a January 2003 release through Nuclear Blast Records. Among the song titles that are tentatively set to appear on the forthcoming CD are the following: 01. Eagleheart, 02. Elements, 03. Soul of a Vagabond, 04. Find Your Own Voice, 05. Alpha & Omega, 06. Papillon, 07. Drop in the Ocean, 08. Stratofortress
Described as "faster, heavier and more symphonic than ever before", Eements Part I will feature a full-size symphony orchestra and choir conducted by Riku Niemi. The cover artwork for the CD will, once again, be done by Derek Riggs (i.e. IRON MAIDEN).

RAISE HELL
"We are currently working on our new album that will be called "Wicked is my game". We know that it has been a long time since the last album, but we have put a lot of time and effort in writing the songs. Now we are really satisfied with all of them, and we're sure no Raise Hell fan will be dissapointed with the album. We have finished one studio session and will go back to record vocals and to mix the album the 8th of july. We will try to tour as much as possible for the new album, so hopefully we'll meet at the concerts. Expect a thrash-explosion at the end of this summer!"

09 GAMMA RAY CONTEST: Gamma Ray have announced a series of eight shows in Europe in October under the banner of 'Skeletons In The Closet Tour', only this time these shows will fundamentally different from what's gone before........the band have asked the fans to decide on the set list!

The Ray's mainman Kai Hansen said "On all of our previous show's we've played a mix of songs from a new album and the very obvious audience favourites, but this time we intend to play songs we've rarely, or never played live before,
so we thought it might be kinda cool to give the fans the opportunity to decide on the set list themselves by voting on the web-site for the more obscure songs they've repeatedly requested through the fan club and at gigs, hence the title 'Skeleton's In The Closet'. We'll be playing an extended set of what they want to hear!"

To vote for your favourite songs simply go to the Gamma Ray web-site, www.gamma-ray.com, and register your preference, the songs receiving the most votes will form the set list.

10 voters will be invited backstage at each show to hangout with the guys, and then have their photo taken which will be signed by the band and sent on to them.

So all you Gamma Ray fans who shout requests when you're at the gigs......now's your chance......GET VOTING!!!!!!!

09 TYKOON WANTS TO TAKEOVER!  is the name of a freshly-launched Stockholm band that features guitarists Tommy
Denander (RADIOACTIVE) and Lars Chriss (LION'S SHARE).

"Tommy and I have been working hard on writing songs lately and so far it's FANTASTIC AOR in the style of STREETS "Crimes In Mind" and DEF LEPPARD "Pyromania/Hysteria", with some touches of Paul Stanley's songwriting in KISS," Chriss told BLABBERMOUTH.NET. "Pretty much like the most melodic side of LION'S SHARE (with Tommy's influences added), since I have decided to exclude that side and concentrate on the Heavy Metal (ala JUDAS PRIEST) and doomy (ala BLACK SABBATH) side only (like 'Waiting', 'Shotgun Messiah' or 'Fall From Grace', 'Unholy Rites') on the next LION'S SHARE CD."

At the moment, plans exist for TYKOON to participate in an upcoming KISS tribute CD containing only "Unmasked" (the 1980 album) songs, to which they will contribute a version of "Easy As It Seems".

In other news, Chriss is continuing work on the material for the upcoming full-length debut  from COSMIC SPHERE, in addition to keeping busy with the aforementioned TYKOON and LION'S SHARE projects. "Instead of getting all my influences into LS albums, I really enjoy doing all these side projects to cover all the angles I'm into—COSMIC SPHERE (aggressive metal), TYKOON (AOR), LION'S SHARE (classic/heavy metal), and even an as-yet-unnamed Doom/BLACK SABBATH-style project for the most dark and slow stuff," stated Chriss.

Not to be outdone, Lars is also planning on getting more involved in production and songwriting for other artists, with several projects in the works, including some that fall outside the metal genre.

"I will start working at a production company called Plugged as a producer, engineer and songwriter," Chriss revealed. "They have earlier had success with REDNEX and SHEBANG among others. I have written a couple of songs in LAMBRETTA style and will probably co-write with the Plugged guys in pure-pop style as well. I will also start looking for rock/metal bands to produce and record at the Plugged studio soon."

09 ERIC MARTIN GOES SANE!: MR. BIG frontman ERIC MARTIN is preparing his 4th studio release entitled I Am Going Sane. It is reportedly a return to his "rock roots", with modern influences such as the Marvelous 3 and Goo Goo Dolls in the mix. The record is due out on Frontiers Records, where it will include 2 bonus tracks for Europeans.
09 BASEMENT BITS:...TED NUGENT's Craveman album is due out September 24th on Spitfire Records...DOKKEN recorded a special House of Blues Show for you to hear at http://www.hob.com/artistfeatures/greenroom/greenroom.asp?gid=87 ... 10 Iron Maiden have confirmed the release of first-ever DVD 'Rock in Rio' on
August 20th on Sanctuary Visual Entertainment through Columbia Music Video.

The Double DVD set contains their live concert performance filmed at the
world famous Rock in Rio festival in 2001, in front of a sellout audience of
250,000 fans and a global TV audience of millions. The concert was filmed by
Globo TV with 14 cameras, including 2 cranes and a helicopter, and a further
4 man camera team, which was directed by Dean Karr (who worked with the band
when he directed the video for "The Wicker Man"). The monumental task of
editing the 60 hours of footage was completed by founding band member and
bassist Steve Harris.

Instead of using the existing TV broadcast, the show was completely re-edited
by Steve Harris to create an explosive two-hour visual feast of the band's
intensity on stage. The concert contains thousands of edits (more than the
likes of most full length action movies such as Lord Of The Rings or Gladiator
!) in a relentless two hour stage performance.

The band's 18 song set covers tracks from their recent 'Brave New World'
studio album through to the classic metal anthems including "The Number Of
The Beast", "Fear Of The Dark", "2 Minutes to Midnight", and their UK Top Ten
single "Run To The Hills".

The concert sound also had special treatment as it was mixed and produced by
Kevin 'Caveman' Shirley (Black Crowes, Aerosmith, Journey), who produced
Maiden's last studio album. Kevin, assisted by Steve Harris, crafted the live
recording into Dolby 5.1 Surround Sound. For fans of home cinema, a DTS
(Digital Theatre Sound) track was also added so that when watching the live
show, you feel like you are in the front row with the entire crowd behind
you. This DVD is one of the very first to give the fans the potential to
access both DTS and 5.1 sound.

Comments Steve Harris, "As this was our first-ever DVD release, we wanted to
make sure that it was absolutely right. The picture and audio quality are the
highest possible, as we really pushed the limits technically when the DVD was
authored. I think the fans will be blown away. The few people who have seen
and worked on it have all commented that we've really managed to capture the
live energy of such a massive event, which for me is fantastic."

Contained on the bonus disc is over an hour of in-depth interviews with band
members about the show and their experience as one of the world's biggest
live acts during their 25 year career. An exclusive photo diary, narrated by
long time official photographer Ross Halfin, animated menus and other hidden
extras complete the bonus disc.  The Limited Edition double DVD is available
in unique 'sensaround' packaging. For those who still haven't got access to
DVD players, there will also be a double VHS version available in some
countries, also available through Sanctuary Visual Entertainment.

This was the third Rock in Rio festival which also featured headline
performances from Guns N' Roses, Sting, Neil Young, Britney Spears and Oasis
among others. The entire festival was viewed by an estimated TV audience of
over a billion people worldwide.

21 NEW ORLEANS ROCK VETERANS LILLIAN AXE 'HACK OUT' DOUBLE
LIVE ALBUM AND TOUR! (Press Release)

'Live 2002' Scheduled For August 20th Release
               Through Red And Gold International

Having spent much of the past 7 years on hiatus and working in side bands,
New Orleans heroes LILLIAN AXE are primed to make a grand return to form
with their first-ever live album 'Live 2002', slated for release through Red And
Gold International on August 20th. Various tour dates are being planned for
               late July through August.

LILLIAN AXE currently consists of founding members Steve Blaze (guitar) and
Ron Taylor (vocals), with bassist Darrin DeLatte, guitarist Sam Poitevent and
drummer Ken Koudelka. The new double-live album, 'Live 2002', was recorded
in Houston, TX in May of this year. The release celebrates the 20th
anniversary of one of hard rock's most gifted yet underrated talents. 'Live
2002' explores deep into the music that has given LILLIAN AXE its signature
sound and made the band an underground favorite worldwide.

Formed in the mid-80s by classical-guitar trained Steve Blaze and vocalist
Ron Taylor; LILLIAN AXE perfected an infectious style of harmony-saturated
hard rock that spawned extensive radio & MTV support, numerous world tours
and 4 studio albums, including a self-titled debut produced by the late Ratt
guitarist Robbin Crosby (featuring the video & radio hit "Dream Of A
Lifetime") and two extremely successful efforts (1992's 'Poetic Justice' -
which reached the Billboard Top 100 and bore 2 hit singles: "True Believer"
and "No Matter What", and 1993's 'Psychoschizophrenia' - which featured
drummer Tommy Stewart, who went to join Godsmack) with legendary Led
               Zeppelin producer Leif Mases.

The late 90s saw LILLIAN AXE on hiatus with side bands (Near Life
               Experience
and The Bridge) as well as building families, but the road came calling, and
the band regrouped to tour through 1999-2000.

There is great cause for the band to celebrate. 2002 not only brings 'Live
2002', a testimonial of fine craftsmanship, but also more touring, as LILLIAN
AXE is confirmed to perform dates with Cinderella and Judas Priest
respectively. 2 CD release parties are also being coordinated in Texas (one
of which will be at the very location where the album was recorded - 19th
               Hole in Houston)!

Tuesday, July 23rd Dallas, TX Canyon Club (with Cinderella)
Wednesday, July 24th New Orleans, LA House Of Blues (with Cinderella)

21 SICKCON 2002 - ALICE COOPER CONVENTION: On 2nd November, the
Limelight Club in Crewe plays host to the UK’s first unofficial ALICE COOPER
               Convention – “Sickcon 1”.

This all day event, running from midday until midnight will comprise the usual
in convention attractions and activities - memorabilia displays, stalls, charity
raffles and auctions, karaoke and quiz competitions.

However, to make the day extra special, appearing, and playing live in the UK
for the first time since November 10th 1972, when they performed on the
“School’s Out” tour, will be original Alice Cooper Group members NEAL
SMITH and DENNIS DUNAWAY, together with ex Blue Öyster Cult member
JOE BOUCHARD. They will be performing numbers from their forthcoming
album “Back From Hell”, together with the Alice Cooper Group classics, and
               no
doubt a few BÖC songs for good measure.

The support act will be Sadness Kills The Superman, a group formed in 2001
for a UK tour with former Alice Cooper Group member Michael Bruce. Since
then, they have gone from strength to strength, and they are currently writing
and recording their own material. They will be performing some Alice Cooper

21 HELP GET DIO INTO HIGHSCHOOL HALL!: (Sent from crusader Terry Mingle) Hi
folks, I figured this would be the BEST way to get the word out, so here goes. I've
started a petition on Ronnie James Dio's behalf, because I nominated him for his alma
mater's "Alumni Wall of Fame" last year and my nomination was rejected. (I still can't
believe it. As it stands, it should be the "Alumni Wall of Shame" - at least until they
add Ronnie's name.) The basic story is that the committee (who are OBVIOUSLY
basing "fame" on local popularity and/or people with "SQUEAKY CLEAN" lifestyles)
have decided that Ronnie doesn't belong on the wall, even though he has had WAY
more fame than all the others whose names and accomplishments have made it on
the wall so far. It's rather obvious that the ONLY reason he's being overlooked is
because he is a ROCK MUSICIAN. THAT is just WRONG!

So, here is my page that tells all about my fight for Ronnie:

               http://nastyhabitband.com/diopetition.html

OR, if you just prefer to sign the petition, just go directly to it, here:
               http://www.PetitionOnline.com/RJDCHS1/petition.html

OR, strictly for your amusement (and be prepared to LAUGH) check out some of the
people that beat him out in 2002 (IF you can download the HUGE Word documents) -
people like local store owners and politician-types!

               http://www.cortlandschools.org/alumni/wallfame.html
Thanks in advance for advertising and/or signing the petition...and by the way, I saw
Dio in concert a couple of weekends ago here in Central NY (close to his hometown)
and he and his band totally ROCKED.

Feel free to forward this news to others....add links from your own websites to the
petition, AND/OR cross-post it, too. ANYTHING you can do to help get that man the
recognition he rightfully deserves would be great.

               Thanks very much,
               Terry Mingle

through...combining heavy melodic songs with a modern guitar edge. RD
breathes new life into the indie music scene with their special brand of musical
onslaught. FLR will also be re-releasing their 1999 debut "It's All Your Fault"

new studio album for FLR with a Christmas/New Years release date.

29 TUFF STUFF!: Electricbasement.com's Scott Alisoglu asked TUFF vocalist
STEVIE RACHELLE how his "American Hair Band" novelty single ultimately
fared in the market, "I put out the song last year and, without too much
exaggeration, it went through the roof almost everywhere it got played. The
problem I ran into was I wasn't on a major label. I didn't have distribution. It was
a full package - bar coded and everything. I mean I've been doing this for eight
years. A lot of my pieces are sold through mail order on-line through different
distributors and wholesalers who buy from me. I also have several stores that
buy from me. It's even in Best Buy.

We kind of keyed in certain markets. We got huge spins where there was some
noise being made with my song. We got played by 99X in Atlanta, which is a
huge station. The number one station in the United States is K-ROCK New
York. K-Rock - the Cane show played me at night. I started having labels call
me, and distributors. I was on play lists with like Papa Roach and Nine Inch
Nails. The song is very hard and aggressive sounding like the Kid Rock sound,
but it's basically a song that is talking about 80s bands. Things were rolling
along fairly well, but it was only a few months after that when 9/11 hit. Then
people went into kind of a freeze mode." Read the whole interview here:

29 SIXTY WATT SHAMAN RETURN: Maryland's pure rock mystics SIXTY WATT
SHAMAN have recently completed work on Reason To Live, their sophomore
full-length for Spitfire Records. The album was recorded at Phase Studio in
College Park, MD and produced by the band along with the masterful Scott
Reeder (Kyuss, Unida, The Obsessed). This was Reeder's first experience
working with the band and it proved to be a productive and enlightening
experience for all involved. "Making a record can be pretty intense - it's like
diving headfirst into a meat grinder with everyone, and you never know what's
gonna come out until you get to the other side," comments Reeder.

"With Sixty Watt Shaman, everything flowed just right - it was an amazing
privilege to witness their performance and be able to capture it on tape
-inspiring as a musician, songwriter, producer, and human being on many
levels," he continues. "I came in a stranger and walked away with four
                  brothers."

Last year's debut Seed Of Decades drew critical praise from around the
world and the band made a name for themselves in the US on the
memorable Penchant For Violence tour along with Zakk Wylde's Black
Label Society and Crowbar. Their debut single "Roll The Stone" has also
earned permanent rotation status at several commercial radio stations
across the country. As aptly described by Metal Edge magazine, "Sixty
Watt Shaman take their favorite elements within rock 'n roll's illustrious
history, put 'em in a progressive, soulful, southern rock, metal, alternative
blender, shake 'em up and spit 'em out with originality and eccentricity."

According to Reeder, this latest recording process went well beyond the
standard knob-twisting and the group shared some intensely memorable
moments together. "One of the highlights for me was taking the guys to a
performance by my wife's uncle, a Cahuilla tribal elder who helps
preserve the tribal history through birdsongs. Later, we broke bread with
him - he spoke of the lineage of the Shaman in his tribe's history, and
summed things up with an important bit of advice: When your power
comes to you, you mustn't be afraid of it, or it will go away...."

Reason To Live is scheduled for release in August of 2002.

29 DIO ON THE DEVIL SIGN!: RONNIE JAMES DIO, the man widely credited for
pioneering the "devil's horns" hand sign, recently spoke to Kerrang! about the
"widespread abuse of his creation" amongst pop folk and people who flash the
sign without knowing the meaning behind it.

"It's all right as long as it's accepted for what it was," Dio told the magazine. "It
was a more serious thing at the time, when I was with [BLACK] SABBATH. That
was a band that was very dark, and that's what I wanted it to be. It was symbol
of the darkness of that band, and not something to be passed on to BRITNEY
SPEARS! An invention is an invention, I guess. It's become so damn polluted
now. The people who are doing it don't know what it means and they have no
idea that they shouldn't be doing it." Read the rest here:

29 TAGLIERI "TAGGED" BY MAXIMUM VELOCITY: (Press Release) Maximum
Velocity Records, along with Leap Dog Music and Ego Trip Entertainment, is
proud to announce the signing of JOHN TAGLIERI to Maximum Velocity
Records for his newest single, "Angels Among Us". The song, previously
released independently by Leap Dog Music, received such a great response that
Maximum Velocity Records has decided to sign and release the song to a
national audience. The song will be released on Tuesday, August 27th, 2002.
29 BYRD TAKES FLIGHT AGAIN: (Press Release)Following last year’s critically
acclaimed release "Flying Beyond The 9", progressive rock guitarist/producer
James Byrd’s 8th album "Anthem" has just been released. Released again
under the moniker "BYRD", the album utilizes "progressive symphonic metal"
production values combined with highly technical guitar playing and solidly
                  accessible melodies.

"Anthem" sets forth 9 tracks of highly polished progressive hard-rock
featuring complex multi-layered vocal harmonies, AOR melodic sensibility, and
                  incredible guitar performances.

Says James Byrd; "Prior to September 11th I had already begun conceiving and

writing my next album. When the attack happened, I was completely at a loss
as to continuing with the album. After several months of reflection, I knew I had
to just start all over again. I just didn’t have any further feeling of connection to
the music I had started before September 11th and to have continued as though
nothing had changed just wasn’t going to be artistically honest. Anthem isn’t a
"tribute album" but it’s subject matter is timely and the album’s content was
entirely conceived and written in the wake of September 11th’s world altering
events. Although the album’s content and direction reflect the period it was
produced in, the events of 9/11 were deliberately avoided in any of the album’s
descriptive pre-production press releases, and there is no mention of the
album’s relation to September 11th in the packaging whatsoever. I came to feel
that there was too much use of September 11th for ulterior motives and my
intent is to make certain that although the album was very much inspired by the
attack and it’s aftermath, there would not be an attempt to "cash in" on this
tragedy, whether through linkage to fund-raising or the packaging of the album.
As an artist, I can not help but reflect upon my surroundings honestly. Once
someone actually gets inside of this music and the words, the messages of
these nine songs finally do become clearer. I would describe "Anthem" as
personally passionate and it was an incredibly difficult album to make for many
reasons, not the least of which was my level of personal sadness, frustration,
and anger at these hideous events".

Musically "Anthem" would best be described as unapologetically grandiose in
it’s level of instrumental virtuosity and 70’s style "art-rock" influences,
and fans of groups like Deep Purple, Queen and Uli Jon Roth will feel right at
home musically. Lyrically the album avoids all of the heavy-metal stereotypes
of "dungeons and dragons" and sets forth issues of religious freedom and
dedications to those who’ve fought for universal democratic principles for
                  humanity.

The album’s track listing is as follows:

                  1. Anthem –dealt by darkness-
                  2. "Omen"
                  3. Messages From Home
                  4. Some Day
                  5. All I Want
                  6. Killing Machine
                  7. Thank You
                  8. The Price of War
                  9. Only Love

The album will be widely through the usual internet music retailers and
additional information and links to sound-clips can be found at
                  http://www.jamesbyrd.com.

30 ALICE COOPER RETURNS WITH A SPECIAL DRAGONTOWN: (Press
Release) New York, NY- ALICE COOPER will be releasing the 2-CD set of
Dragontown (Special Edition) on Spitfire Records on September 24, 2002.
Bonus material on the album will consist of "Can't Sleep, Clowns Will Eat
Me"(previously unreleased in North America), live recordings from the Brutal
Planet 2000 concert tour of "Go To Hell"and "Ballad Of Down Fry," videos and a
new "Brutal Planet 2002 Descent remix"

Dragontown, along with Brutal Planet (Spitfire), is the latest chapter in
Alice Cooper's long history of disturbing storytelling- one of anger and
exasperation with society and a world's preoccupation with greed, sex and
                  death.

Cooper takes his "Descent Into Dragontown" show on the road beginning
August 30th in South Dakota, continuing through the "Master of Theater Rock's"
signature holiday Halloween season, finishing up in Poughkeepsie on November
                  2. Alice will then take "Descent Into Dragontown"to Europe for the
                  remainder of the year.

Cooper toured across the USA coinciding with the original release of
Dragontown last year, in the wake of the Sept. 11th terrorist attacks. For
many who were understandably preoccupied at that time, this represents an
opportunity to catch up with Alice's latest show and album.
