03 NEW VOLUME CAN BE HEARD NOW!: (Press Release) Madroad & High Beam Records announces the release of VOLUME's highly anticipated EP, 'Requesting Permission To Land'. 'Requesting Permission To Land' is part two of the Volume audio trilogy (part one is the 1998 seven-inch 'Check This Planet I'm Gone...' on SuperKool Records). The third and final part of the trilogy will be the full-length album the band is currently working on (to be released on Madroad Records in 2003).Requesting was recorded with Mike McHugh (Jon Spencer Blues
Explosion, Train, Rocket From The Crypt) and co-produced by Patrick Brink.

"We wanted a real home grown sound so everything was recorded on two-inch and mixed down to 1/4 inch two-track" Brink explains."This is rock 'n' roll, not brain surgery, so we tried to do everything in as few takes as possible" , "Mike was really, really good to work with" Brink
enthuses. The album was recorded at The Distillery in Costa Mesa, CA.

Main songwriter and vocalist Patrick Brink grew up in 29 Palms, just outside of Joshua Tree in the Mojave Desert.29 Palms has a total population of less than 7,000.Both the isolation and setting greatly influenced Brink.

"Making music was never about what the other people/bands were doing" Brink comments. "Because" he continues "there were no other local bands at the time, and to hear any decent type of music you had to mail order stuff. Half the time I didn't know what I was buying--if it had a strange or cool sounding name I would order it. So we were making it up as we went along."

Once Brink moved to the nearby urban sprawl of Orange County he began to sing for Fu Manchu. When he left that band he decided to form Volume.Requesting features Scott Reeder (Fu Manchu, Smile) on drums.Shortly after the album was recorded Tom "Oz" Owsley joined as permanent drummer. Owsley brings his experience with infamous punk band The Sluts (toured with Black Flag, Minutemen) and Red Rockers to the band.Long term Volume member, Jay Christensen and new bass player, Cas (previously in Tummler) round out the line-up.

Press has praised Volume's distorted brand of drug-damaged space rock stylings.A writer for Tertangala in Australia enthuses 'Requesting Permission To Land' is the ultimate in acid-induced, ear-shattering heavy psychedelia. HellRideMusic.com notes "Also, kudos to ex-Smile and current Fu Manchu skin slammer Scott Reeder for some very Keith Moon-ian drum work on Requesting Permission To Land." Roadburn.com sums it up explaining "The thing I really like about Volume is the use of vibe as a main part of their songwriting. Each song on 'RPTL' is a fucked up head swim that can be likened to either 50's sci-fi B-movies or 60's LSD-gatherings."

Volume are Patrick Brink on guitar and vocals, Jay Christensen on lead guitar, Tom "Oz" Owsley on drums and Cas on bass.

The five tracks on the EP are
1. Habit
2. Collossalfreak Major
3. Don't Look Around (a Mountain cover)
4. Makebelieve
5. Headswim

03 PROGRESSIVE POWERHOUSE PLANET X CONFIRMS U.S. TOUR: (Press Release) LOS ANGELES – PLANET X, the progressive rock ensemble comprised of some of the genre’s

Together this trio has set the standard in instrumental fusion.

“All three members have other musical interests, but Planet X is the one band where the
three of us enjoy creative control,” said Sherinian.

The trio has released a total of three albums under the moniker of Planet X, debuting
with 2000’s “Universe” and including this year’s studio follow-up, “Moonbabies,” and the
live recording, “Live from Oz,” which also includes guest bassist Dave LaRue.

AGATHODAIMON

Here’s a statement from guitarist Sathonys: “He was undergoing a stomach surgery many months ago, and since then he continuously lost his joy to play gigs due to the problems he had with longer travels, which didn’t get better until now; so he decided to quit. It was a hard decision for him, and we wish Marko the best of luck.”

Although the band is currently searching for a suitable replacement, the upcoming gigs won’t be cancelled. 05 FORMER 'DETH GUITARIST ENJOYS NEW MUSICAL LIFE: (Press Release) Former MEGADETH guitaristJEFF YOUNG seemingly disappeared from sight after a breathtaking performance on the now classic, So Far, So Good... So What! (Capital, 1987) release. Equally as mysterious, is the coincidence surrounding the recent demise of Megadeth and Jeff’s timely
reemergence - a groundbreaking collaboration with award winning Brazilian singer-guitarist, Badi Assad. The duo’s October 2002 CD release, Badi Assad ¿¿ Jeff Young – Nowhere (WaterSongs Music) is a radical and refreshing departure from the vast majority of today’s homogenized music product. In fact, when Megadeth heads discover Young’s intensely diverse flamenco inspired guitar attack, they will swear this classically spawned virtuoso has been reborn.

Badi and Jeff’s harmonically complex yet hook laden songs pulse with global influences that morph Brazilian, flamenco, even reggae with reflections of rock, jazz, and classical. Often times, several genres seamlessly intertwine within the space of one song. Nowhere is an innovative exploration of “world-fusion” that soars from delicate dreamscapes to most powerful music ever to rise out of an unamplified guitar. http://www.nowhereland.ws

The tracklisting is as follows: Tear Me Down, Falling, All Around Me, Bring Me Home, Sleeping Town, You See Three, Kings of Tragedy, Vertigo, Shades of Love, Unruly Child, Something.

06 SINOPOLI UPDATE: JOEY SINOPLI sent this out to vairous publications: "November 11th Generation Records are releasing SINOPOLI..."The Eyes Never Lie". The album is the BEST OF SINOPOLI. A retrospect of our career. These songs have been produced by Eddie Kramer {Led Zep, The Beatles, Jimmy Hendrix and KISS} , John Regan {Peter Frampton, David Lee Roth and Ace Frehley}, Grammy Award winning Dennis Ferrante {John Lennon, Elvis, The Clash, Lou Reed} Jack Ponti {Alice Cooper, Doro} and Stacy Phelon {Monster Magnet}. So you get a deverse style of some of rocks best producers, all on one album. I am proud to have worked with all of them. They are the best! This album was recorded with all vintage sounds of the 70's. I look at it as a "1970s RETRO ALBUM." Three of the songs on this album "Girl, You Got Me Going," "No More," "Be My Lover" were #1 Hits here in different areas of America. Everything has just been Digitally re-mastered by Ciid Barardi at East Coast Mastering in New Jersey."

LISTEN UP SO YOU DON'T GO DEAF: (Press Release) New York - The Hearing Aid Music Foundation has announced the completion of a 15-minute educational film entitled "Listen Smart - Safely Handling The Power of Sound". The film was designed to create awareness about noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL), and to encourage safer practices in consuming high decibel sound. The film, along with a teacher's aid booklet, is being distributed by Human Relations Media, to school districts throughout the U.S. and Canada, and other English-speaking countries around the world. The film features numerous recording artists, music and sound professionals, as well as prominent audiologists and medical experts in hearing loss.

Artists involved in conveying their experience and advice on hearing conservation include Moby, OZZY OSBOURNE, Darren Hayes from Savage Garden, Cyndi Lauper, Wyclef Jean, LARS ULRICH of METALLICA, Tracy Bonham, Evan Seinfeld of Biohazard and HBO's "Oz," Deborah Harry of Blondie, Brad Delson from Linkin Park, producer Matthew Wilder, and entertainment impresario Russell Simmons.

The film offers an introduction to information about hearing and the increased trend in noise-induced hearing loss. It provides advice on hearing protection and methods of safely consuming music. The diverse group of recording artists provides their own experience, advice, and views on the power of sound in their professional lives.

The Better Hearing Institute estimates that approximately 28 million people, or one out of ten people suffer from hearing loss in the U.S. According to an article in Prevention Magazine in 2000, many more are dealing with tinnitus, and that "an estimated 50 million Americans, 1 out of 5, experience this constant ringing in the ears."

Dr. Robert Ruben, MD, FACS, FAAP, Distinguished University Professor, Department of Otolaryngology, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, lead the outstanding group of medical and sound professionals who contributed their expertise to the film. Dr. Gregg Staffel, Shea Ear Clinic, in Memphis, Tennessee, Audiologist Kevin O'Flaherty, Kathy Peck, Director of H.E.A.R. in San Francisco, all provided their perspective to the issue of NIHL.

Veteran music video and documentary director Pamela French oversaw all phases of the direction and production, with Geoff Martz handling the writing for the film and the teacher's booklet. The "Listen Smart" film was conceived by Dan Beck, who served as executive director, and who also cofounded Hearing Aid Music Foundation.

The Nation Hearing Conservation Association will show the film at their national convention in Dallas, TX, in February. Human Relations Media features the film in their catalog to over one million educators across the US and Canada.

The film has been partially funded by a grant from Shure, Incorporated, the leading manufacturers of microphones and audio electronics. Closed captioning was donated by Caption Max. Additional support has come from BMG Entertainment, V2 Records, Xoff Records, and Sony Music Studios, as well as private donations.

Hearing Aid Music Foundation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. A screening event for the film will be announced in the near future.

13 ZION TO FRONTIERS: (Press Release) Frontiers Records is pleased to announce the signing of the new project band lead by ex ALIAS singer, the mighty voice of AOR, Freddy Curci for the territories of Europe and Asia.

The new band is called ZION and is based in Los Angeles, California even though it is formed by seasoned musicians of the Canadian and US rock music scene including also Paul Marangoni (Coney Hatch) on drums, Joey Scoleri and Grammy Award nominee Alex Masi on guitars.

The band is currently recording the debut album which is going to include 13 songs and is planned for a release in the late summer 2003. Some of the songs recorded already are: I'm Coming Home; Avalon, From Now On, How Much Longer Is Forever, Romeo Dawgs, Defcon 4, Glory Be (In The Lowest), The Sky Is Falling (to be included on the forthcoming Frontiers sampler compilation “Rock The Bones”).

Zion is designed to be a new melodic rock force to be reckoned with and definitely a return to form for Freddy Curci, after the ALIAS days!

That’s what he says about it: “This record is very raw. You can hear the air around the drums. The guitars aren’t cluttered. Everything breaths. It's a different kind of production for me. Basic, no synths: just organ and piano. The music tells the same story as the lyrics. Naked. People will see my soul. I'm in a place in my life where singing 10 songs about women just doesn't mean that much to me any more. In the past the words didn't matter. I just sang in a 5 octave range and people would go WOW! and that was it. The world is a different now. I don't know if I'm wiser but I'm older. I feel it's important to have a realistic outlook on the future. I need to express what I feel. And this is what I feel!”

13 MIDNIGHT ANGEL IN THE FASTLANE: (Press Release) MIDNIGHT ANGEL have entered the studio to start recording their debut for FastLane Records. Free MP3 download will be available shortly..for more info please visit www.fastlanerecords.com

19 BLACKMORE'S NIGHT UPDATE: RITCHIE BLACKMORE and CANDICE NIGHT of BLACKMORE'S NIGHT spoke with ClassicRockRevisited.com about their project and passion. Blackmore on getting away from hard rock and into Rennaissance music, "In 1995, when I reformed Rainbow and recorded Stranger In Us All -- Candice and I had been together since 1989 and I knew that she could sing. When we were in the studio with Rainbow she helped out a lot by coming up with lyrics for songs and singing background vocals. But even while we were recording Stranger In Us All, we were writing songs for our own pleasure. We never thought that we would record them- but they were later the songs that we put on Shadow of The Moon. Actually, Ariel from Stranger In Us All was a song that Candice and I had originally written together as a ballad. We may even re-record that the original way it was written at some point. When we started playing the songs we wrote together at one of our parties for our friends and a neighbor came up to me and said "I don't know much about the music that you recorded with Deep Purple or Rainbow, but if you 2 recorded this I would buy it"; that's when I started seriously thinking about recording the songs." 20 ENTER MY SILENCE  - Back in business!

The Finnish answer to In Flames are back in business! After a short period with missing inspiration, these super melodic gentlemen have completed a handful of great new songs, sounding both modern, catchy and ass kicking! It looks like the band is ready to enter the studio in early 2003 to record their long awaited follow-up to last year's debut "Remotecontrolled Scythe".

24 SETTING A GOOD EX-AMPLE!: Ex-Gunners SLASH, IZZY, DUFF and MATT are looking for a singer for the yet to be named band. Slash told MTV about the search process, "I'll know it when I hear it. Right off the bat, I'll know. We're just trying to find a really great f---ing rock and roll singer, and it's really hard to find anybody that you'd consider genuine, and it's also somebody who's got to fit in with us. It's not impossible, but it's not easy. It could be somebody known, or somebody unknown, who's just a star and doesn't know it." The band would even consider a female if it fit the vibe. Slash also insisted this was not a GNR renuion or an intention to rival AXL ROSE, explaining thatt this was a separate band both in name and musically. 24 SAXON JUDGMENT DAY: (Press Release) This was sent from representatives of OLIVER/DAWSON SAXON, "The ongoing legal action between the original members of the band Saxon has finally resulted in a Judgement regarding the trademark.

Graham Oliver & Steve Dawson, now performing as Oliver/Dawson Saxon, have won the
action brought against them by Biff Byford regarding the trademark to the name ‘Saxon’.
Byford tried to have the trademark invalidated on the grounds of Passing Off and Bad
Faith, however the court found against him on both counts. Oliver & Dawson were
represented in the case by the manager of Oliver/Dawson Saxon, Rupert Withers, who despite having no legal qualifications, believed in the situation and acted as a
litigant in person on their behalf.

The result of this case means that the trademark ‘Saxon’ is still owned by Graham Oliver & Steve Dawson. It proves that contrary to certain propaganda stories in the press, Oliver/Dawson Saxon have a legitimate claim to use the name.

The timing on the judgement is good, with Oliver/Dawson Saxon having just finished a very successful UK tour with Dio, and with 2003 being the 25th anniversary of Saxon. Oliver/Dawson Saxon intend to continue working hard and will be touring and recording again next year. However this does not mean that Oliver/Dawson Saxon will be changing their name back to Saxon. As Oliver & Dawson have maintained throughout the case, Saxon is the band made up of the original 5 members, and as such they are not attempting to confuse or mislead the fans into thinking that they are the same band.

Oliver/Dawson Saxon’s new live DVD ‘Rock has Landed’ is coincidentally released this week by Angel Air Records.

24 'MAY' THE BEST RIFF WIN!: (Thanks to Jen and brianmaynews.com for this) ‘Britain – Are you ready to rock?’ I said ‘ARE YOU READY TO ROCK?’

We’re cranking it up to 11 for the second coming of The Best Air Guitar Album In The World…II. Yet again, rock legend BRIAN MAY has rung a few of his axe wielding friends (I mean guitar players not lumberjacks) and asked if they mind putting their tracks on an album dedicated to living room rock stars the world over. And you know what? They said yes!

On The Best Air Guitar Album In The World II Brian has brought together 42 classic rock tunes, ideally suited for those who like to pick up a tennis racket, close their eyes and prance around the room like a rock god, praying their girlfriend doesn’t walk in. Many of these tracks appear on a compilation for the very first time and never before have any of them been put on a compilation purely dedicated to the art of Air Guitar playing.

So what are the tracks to make your fingers bleed? For you old skool air guitar aficionados there are the true rock stalwarts. The album kicks off, of course, with the man Brian himself and his mates from Queen with One Vision. There’s the groover from Vancouver Bryan Adams with Run To You, perm happy 80’s rock legends Def Leppard with Pour Some Sugar On Me and 3 chord specialists Status Quo with Paper Plane and (first time on a compilation) Roll Over Lay Down.

Rarities are supplied by the hard living Thin Lizzy Jailbreak, the clean living Iron Maiden Run To The Hills and the glam living The Sweet Action. There are also exclusives from those bearded wonders ZZ Top with Sharp Dressed Man and soft rock superstars Toto with Hold The Line.

For the Nu-Metal air guitarists out there, there are 6 string heavy songs from Sum 41 Fat Lip, Nickelback How You Remind Me, Alien Ant Farm Smooth Criminal and The Hives Hate To Say I Told You So.

All this plus The Beastie Boys, The Clash, The Who, The Kinks, The Cult, The Knack and many, many more, not all of them beginning with the word ‘The’.

24 SHAKE, RATTLE AND ROLL YOUR BONES: (From Press Release) Frontiers will release a new sampler titled “Rock The Bones”. The tracks of the 2CD set: DISC 1 - Hardline "Paralyzed"; John West "Stand, Sentinel"; Eric Martin "I'm Goin' Sane"; White Skull "The Dark Age"; Jim Peterik World Stage With Johnny Van Zant "The Day America Cried"; Honeymoon Suite "Gone"; Andre' Andersen "Coming Home"; Mollo / Martin "Amore Silenzioso"; Harem Scarem "Weight Of The World"; Mecca "Silence Of The Heart"; Giant "You Will Be Mine"; Ten "Glimmer Of Evil"; Vicious Mary "Love Or Hate"; Two Fires "I Will Remember You"; Reb Beach "Ghost"; Stramonio "Appointment With Life". 24 'PROPHET' OPERA PREDICTED TO ROCK!: (Press Release) Classical & opera-trained hard rock composer LUCA TURILLI returns to his solo artistry on November 26th, 2002, when he reveals his most inspired work to date, the science fiction/fantasy opus 'Prophet Of The Last Eclipse', through Limb Music Products. Better known as the founding guitarist of groundbreaking Italian symphonic epic metal band Rhapsody, LUCA's long awaited second chapter of the 'Virtual Odyssey Trilogy' proves him to once again be a versatile and motivated composer.

More than 30 first class musicians, including 4 different choirs, have made the production of 'Prophet Of The Last Eclipse' an extraordinary and fascinating sound-experience. Luca acknowledges that the album is "even more versatile and diversified than [his debut solo album, 1999's] 'King Of The Nordic Twilight'. The subject of the album takes place, both musically and thematically, in another time on another world, so it perfectly fits with what I call 'Symphonic Cosmic Metal'."

Produced by Sascha Paeth and Miro (known for their work with Angra, Kamelot, Rhapsody, Heavens Gate, Virgo, and others), 'Prophet Of The Last Eclipse' features Luca on guitar, Sascha Paeth on bass & guitar, Miro on keyboards, vocalist Olaf Hayer and drummer Robert Hunecke-Rizzo.

Having composed & recorded no less than 4 acclaimed 'symphonic epic metal' albums plus an additional mini album with Rhapsody since 1997, Luca's greatest passion is for film score composers like Jerry Goldsmith, Danny Elfman, Basil Poledouris, etc., and this influence shines throughout each track on 'Prophet Of The Last Eclipse'. Luca is also working on
an orchestral demo, which will contain extracts from both solo albums. With it he will try to reach his life's goal as a musician... becoming a soundtrack composer. Until then, the masses can awe at the complex beauty and ingenious technical prowess of 'Prophet Of The Last Eclipse'. Sound samples at: http://www.limb-music.de

29 WE WISH YOU A METAL XMAS AND A HALFORD NEW YEAR: (Press Release)

HALFORD CONFIRMS NEW YEARS PERFORMANCES

NEW YORK - The Metal God - ROB HALFORD - is making a triumphant return to the stage with two nights of Heavy Metal Thunder.

Halford's debut on Sunday, December 29, 2002 at Mandalay Bay's House of Blues in Las
Vegas, N.V., and House of Blues in Anaheim, Calif., Thursday, January 2, 2003 will be
the band's first U.S. dates in more than two years. Heavy Metal fans are gearing up for
the loud evenings, which also feature Thrash Metal veterans Testament, Vio-lence and
Exhumed.

Rob Halford returned to his musical Metal roots with the release of his critically and
commercially acclaimed 2000 release "Resurrection." Considered to be the best recording
Judas Priest never made, "Resurrection" catapulted Halford onto 100 stages world wide -
culminating in their co-headline appearance with Iron Maiden at last year's Rock In Rio
Festival in Brazil. The band performed for more than 200,000 fist-pumping fans, and
then they disappeared into the studio, completing one of Metal's best live recordings,
2001's "Halford - Live Insurrection," only to turn around and begin 14 months of work on
the follow up studio release to "Resurrection."

Late this summer, Halford debuted their stunning new studio release, "Crucible," to an
anxious and very loyal Metal community and then went on hiatus to recover from the past
couple years’ schedule. Worldwide, The Metal God's devout fans have anointed "Crucible"
as one of Rob's most creative works – absolutely the finest of his post-Priest career.

Rob Halford's career spans more than 30 years in the recording industry. Most can't
shake his dangerous image as the legendary, leather-clad screamer for Metal giants Judas
Priest. Hundreds of thousands of fans are looking forward to filling up venues around
the world once more to sing along with The Metal God and his anthemic mainstays
"Breaking The Law," "You've Got Another Thing Coming" and vicious classics like
"Painkiller" and "Made In Hell."

Halford have also confirmed their much anticipated return to Japan, with dates scheduled
for February 2003. North America and Canada are finally within the band's sights as
well, with another impressive lineup expected to begin work with Halford in March 2003.

“I can’t wait to get on stage in front of our audience,” said Halford. “The band has a
punishing set prepared for those willing to step up. By the time they get through the
strong lineup of extreme metal bands also on the bill, we'll get on the boards and
unleash nearly two dozen hits covering the Priest, Fight and Halford catalogues.”
