AUDIOSLAVE RAP IT UP According to internet reports, Audioslave have collaborated with rapper DMX on two songs, one of which is to surface in the new movie ‘From The Cradle To The Grave’, starring Jet Li. Neither song is expected to be included on the band’s self-titled, debut album, due out on November 18 in the UK and Europe. Former Extreme frontman Gary Cherone has refused to rule out a reunion of the Boston band. Talking to Metal Coven, Cherone said that the band regularly receive offers, but would only consider such a move if they could come up with new material. Cherone is presently fronting new band Tribe Of Judah, who’ve just released their debut album, ‘Exit Elvis’, on Spitfire.

03	3 DOORS DOWN RECRUIT DRUMMER 3 Doors Down have brought in Canadian drummer David Adair for their upcoming tour of America. The band, who release their second album ‘Away From The Sun’ in the US on November 12, used the services of Josh Freese (Guns N’ Roses, A Perfect Circle, Vandals) in the studio. SHELTER FUNDS TotalRock would like to congratulate all of those who helped to make the recent Helter Shelter event at the King’s Head in Fulham such a success. A sum of £766 was donated to the charity Shelter as a result. THE EMPEROR’S RETURN Legendary black metal band Emperor are to have a compilation album released through Candlelight in early March. It’s titled ‘Scattered Ashes - A Decade of Emperial Wrath’, and is being put together in association with Emperor guitarist Samoth. The band, of course, split up, last year, following the release of farewell album ‘Prometheus – The Discipline Of Fire And Demise’.

The album was recorded at The Distillery in Costa Mesa, CA. Main songwriter and vocalist Patrick Brink grew up in 29 Palms, just outside of Joshua Tree in the Mojave Desert.29 Palms has a total population of less than 7,000.Both the isolation and setting greatly influenced Brink. "Making music was never about what the other people/bands were doing" Brink comments. "Because" he continues "there were no other local bands at the time, and to hear any decent type of music you had to mail order stuff. Half the time I didn't know what I was buying--if it had a strange or cool sounding name I would order it. So we were making it up as we went along." Once Brink moved to the nearby urban sprawl of Orange County he began to sing for Fu Manchu.When he left that band he decided to form Volume.Requesting features Scott Reeder (Fu Manchu, Smile) on drums.Shortly after the album was recorded Tom "Oz" Owsley joined as permanent drummer. Owsley brings his experience with infamous punk band The Sluts (toured with Black Flag, Minutemen) and Red Rockers to the band.Long term Volume member, Jay Christensen and new bass player, Cas (previously in Tummler) round out the line-up. Press has praised Volume's distorted brand of drug-damaged space rock stylings.A writer for Tertangala in Australia enthuses 'Requesting Permission To Land' is the ultimate in acid-induced, ear-shattering heavy psychedelia. HellRideMusic.com notes "Also, kudos to ex-Smile and current Fu Manchu skin slammer Scott Reeder for some very Keith Moon-ian drum work on Requesting Permission To Land." 03	PROGRESSIVE POWERHOUSE PLANET X CONFIRMS U.S. TOUR: (Press Release) LOS ANGELES – PLANET X, the progressive rock ensemble comprised of some of the genre’s most notable names, is set to begin touring the U.S. in November. The group, which released two albums this year, “Live from Oz” and “Moonbabies,”consists of Derek Sherinian (keyboards), Virgil Donati (drums), and Tony MacAlpine (guitar). The original Planet X concept was developed out of Sherinian’s first solo effort, an album called “Planet X.” The keyboardist, an accomplished alumnus of Alice Cooper’s band, the KISS touring lineup, and Dream Theater, brought Australian drummer Donati in to play on the release and soon realized a desired to expand upon the idea by adding guitar virtuoso Tony MacAlpine into the mix. Together this trio has set the standard in instrumental fusion. “All three members have other musical interests, but Planet X is the one band where the three of us enjoy creative control,” said Sherinian. The trio has released a total of three albums under the moniker of Planet X, debuting with 2000’s “Universe” and including this year’s studio follow-up, “Moonbabies,” and the live recording, “Live from Oz,” which also includes guest bassist Dave LaRue. This tour will feature music from both “Universe” and “Moonbabies” with an emphasis on the new album. Bassist Ric Fierrabracci will join the band for the tour. 04	AGATHODAIMON Bass player Marko T. recently decided to leave the band due to health problems. Here’s a statement from guitarist Sathonys: “He was undergoing a stomach surgery many months ago, and since then he continuously lost his joy to play gigs due to the problems he had with longer travels, which didn’t get better until now; so he decided to quit. It was a hard decision for him, and we wish Marko the best of luck.” Although the band is currently searching for a suitable replacement, the upcoming gigs won’t be cancelled. The band will play two gigs in Holland this weekend (Rotterdam, Baroeg on Friday and Ede, “So What?” on Saturday) together with The Wounded and Serenade Of Darkness, where Akaias will switch to bass guitar and session guitarist Thilo will take over the second guitar.
04	DARKANE Darkane’s latest masterwork, Expanding Senses, continues to make a big impact with fans old and new alike. Pick up a copy and prepare to be blown away! A video for the track “Innocence Gone” is currently making the rounds on international video shows… keep a watch out for it ‘cause it’s pretty brutal! Darkane will make their debut in both the UK and Japan next month. The UK lineup will include Criminal and Descent, as well as local support. The Japanese tour will feature Mastodon and High on Fire and is being dubbed “Extreme the Dojo Vol. 5.”
04	DEFECATION Defecation belonged to one of the most extreme bands when they recorded their legendary “Purity Dilution” album in 1989. Founded by Mitch and Mick Harris, the band soon was put on ice while Mick was busy with Napalm Death and Mitch took care of both Righteous Pigs and Napalm Death. But now, a decade later, Mitch Harris resurrected Defecation, and it seems as if time stood still! Intense Grindcore, no compromises, a merciless collection of insane and brutal songs! 04	HAMMERFALL HammerFall once again succeeded in topping their success and reached a fantastic #13 on the german charts! The highest chart-position that they ever reached in Germany! Even though the german situation on the CD-market isn’t the best at the moment, it clearly shows that a high quality release means something to the Metal Fans! 04	KATAKLYSM Kataklysm have returned home after their tour that spread carnage across the USA. The band returns to the road on December 3rd in Glasgow, Scotland for a month-long European tour. 05	RUN TO THE HILLS, MAIDEN IS GETTIN' BUSY: (Press Release) On November 26th in the States, IRON MAIDEN's Edward the Great double disc best of package hits stores. 05	HEAVEN'S CRY ASCEND WITH DVS: DVS and HEAVEN's CRY, a prog metal outfit, have agreed to a long term relationship. DVS will re-release the debut CD "Food For Thought Substitude" around June 2003. The band will re-mix and re-master the whole stuff, new artwork will be made and we probably will add 1 or 2 bonustracks to the album, to make it different from the original release. Besides this DVS and Heaven's Cry made already some plans for the third release from the band for early 2004.

06	AC/DC - HIGHWAY TO THE HALL: AC/DC will be inducted into the ROCK N ROLL HALL OF FAME on Monday, March 10, 2003 in New York and will air exclusively on VH1. In anannouncement yesterday, the Hall described the band as "Australia's best loved hard rock export, AC/DC is characterized by bluesy guitar and screeching vocals; and they have nurtured at least three generations of heavy metal boogie fans." The event happens from July 31 to August 2. ANNIHILATOR SIGN NEW DEAL Canadian metallers Annihilator are expected to sign a new record deal with AFM. The first release is expected to be ‘Double Live Annihilation’. KID ROCK FOUND ON THE ‘HILL’ Kid Rock is to appear in an episode of top animated series ‘King Of The Hill’. The show in question is screened in America on November 10.

07	NILE HEADLINE ‘ART OF NOISE’ Nile are to headline the ‘Art Of Noise’ tour, which kicks off in America on January 17. Also on the bill are Napalm Death, Dark Tranquillity, Strapping Young Lad and The Berzerker. VEX RED FIND A CURE Ross Robinson has been confirmed as the producer of the new album from The Cure. And, in something of a strange exercise, he will bring in protégés Vex Red to guest on the record, although exactly what they’ll be doing has yet to be decided. ADEMA IN THE STUDIO Adema might have just released the ‘Insomniac’s Dream’ EP – including two new songs (‘Immortal’ and ‘Shattered’), plus a cover of Alice In Chains’ ‘Nutshell’ – but they're already working on a new album. Right now the band cannot reveal who will produce this, but the band are working in a Los Angeles studio, and among the new songs ready for action are ‘Canuck’ and ‘Unstable’.

This is not a cover CD at all, Metal Inquisition Records is looking for 12 to 15 bands to write original songs in the same style of metal that was king in the bay area from 1983 to 1993 All songs should be recorded after being written just for this project or at least in the last year or so. Bands interested may submit music to Metal Inquisition Records from 4 tracks, home studio's or even raw tape recorders in your band room. The selection will be made based on this so bands do not waste time and money recording a song in a studio should your song not be selected. If your band is selected you may submit a professional studio recording (Or a home studio recording if it's up to at least indy industry standards) for the CD compilation. A 25.00 dollar fee is all you will need to reserve a spot. You pay no fees unless you are selected for the Compilation! 11	DURST CRITICISED BY BIG DAY OUT CORONER Limp Bizkit mainman Fred Durst has been criticised by the coroner over the death of 15-year-old Jessica Michalik at the Big Day Out show in Sydney last January.. The coroner believes Durst should have more sympathetic to what was happening at the front of the stage, where fans were being crushed, and stopped the band’s set. The court also found that the festival organizers, Creative Entertainment, failed to properly assess the risk of crushing. CKY SUPPORT GNR Philadelphia punk metallers CKY have landed the prestigious support slot on Guns N’ Roses North American tour, which has just started. They will be on the bill for the first 14 dates. JANE’S ADDICTION’S BIG DAY Jane’s Addiction, Jimmy Eat World and the Murderdolls have been added to the bill for the upcoming Big Day Out tour of Australia and New Zealand, which kicks off in Auckland on January 17. They join the likes of the Foo Fighters, Deftones, The Living End and Millencolin.
11	HOMME BECOMES AN U.N.K.L.E. Queens Of The Stone Age star Josh Homme is to guest on the next album from electronica band U.N.K.L.E. He will be doing the vocals on a number of tracks. EASTPAC MOVE TO BRISTOL The Newport show on the upcoming Eastpac Resistance tour is no longer happening. This is because the venue, the City Live Arena, will not be open in time. The date – November 29 - has now been switched to the Bristol Anson Rooms. The other two gigs remain as previously: Sheffield Corporation @ The Octagon November 30, London Kentish Town Forum December 1. The bill includes Biohazard, Agnostic Front and Hatebreed. CANTRELL GOES ON A BIGGER ‘TRIP’ Jerry Cantrell is to release a double CD version of his current album ‘Degradation Trip’ on December 9. To be called ‘Degradation Trip Volumes 1&2’, it features 25 songs, including 11 which were left off the original release. The album also includes the video for ‘Anger Rising’.
11	JIMMY EAT COVERS Jimmy Eat World are to release a two-track, vinyl only single next month on Better Looking Records. It features covers of The Prodigy’s ‘Firestarter’ and George Michael’s ‘Last Christmas’. The band are to issue a DVD-EP at the end of November, featuring all the video clips shot for their last, self-titled album, plus live footage. TENACIOUS D: NEW SINGLE Tenacious D are to release new single ‘Wonderboy’ through Epic on November 11. It comes from their self-titled, debut album. NAME MACHINE HEAD’S ALBUM Machine Head are getting fans to name their upcoming live album, due out early next year.. 11	WILDHEARTS ON DVD The Wildhearts release a DVD next March. This is to feature every promo clip the band have filmed, with commentary from Ginger on them all. The band are also planning to release another DVD later on in 2003, which will be more warts ’n’ all! SEPS DEMO NEW MATERIAL Sepultura have written ten songs and demoed eight of them for their proposed new album. No recording details have yet been confirmed for the record, but the style is said to be very heavy. The Seps are shortly to release their covers EP ‘Revolusongs’ via SPV. MUDVAYNE’S BONUS DVD Mudvayne are to release a bonus DVD with new album ‘The End Of All Things To Come’ in America. This will include band interviews, plus two previously unreleased songs, ‘Goodbye’ and ‘On The Move’.
11	GNR CANCELLATION LEADS TO RIOT The first date of Guns N’ Roses’ North American tour in Vancouver was cancelled at the last minute. But the reason remains confusing. According to some sources, this was because Axl Rose wasn’t able to fly from Los Angeles because of poor weather conditions. However, Axl himself insists the show was cancelled by the venue, and had nothing to do with the band. When fans found out about the cancellation they reacted by rioting, although fortunately there were no serious injuries. NAPALM MAN DEFECATES Napalm Death guitarist Mitch Harris has reformed one of his previous bands, Defecation. The band will have an album released early next year on Nuclear Blast. AC/DC ENTER HALL OF FAME AC/DC and The Clash are both to be inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. This will happen on March 10 in New York.

The film, along with a teacher's aid booklet, is being distributed by Human Relations Media, to school districts throughout the U.S. and Canada, and other English-speaking countries around the world. The film features numerous recording artists, music and sound professionals, as well as prominent audiologists and medical experts in hearing loss. Artists involved in conveying their experience and advice on hearing conservation include Moby, OZZY OSBOURNE, Darren Hayes from Savage Garden, Cyndi Lauper, Wyclef Jean, LARS ULRICH of METALLICA, Tracy Bonham, Evan Seinfeld of Biohazard and HBO's "Oz," Deborah Harry of Blondie, Brad Delson from Linkin Park, producer Matthew Wilder, and entertainment impresario Russell Simmons. The film offers an introduction to information about hearing and the increased trend in noise-induced hearing loss. It provides advice on hearing protection and methods of safely consuming music. 13	ZION TO FRONTIERS: (Press Release) Frontiers Records is pleased to announce the signing of the new project band lead by ex ALIAS singer,the mighty voice of AOR, Freddy Curci for the territories of Europe and Asia. 14	GODSMACK STAR’S ‘UNFINISHED BUSINESS’ Godsmack frontman Sully Erna is featured as the drummer on a new album to be released shortly by Screaming Ferret Wreckords. It’s a 1992 recording from metallers Meliah Rage called ‘Unfinished Business’, which has never been previously made available. ICED EARTH’S ‘BURDEN’ American metalheads Iced Earth aim to start recording their new album by January. And it’s be called ‘The Glorious Burden’. CHILI PEPPERS REISSUES The Red Hot Chili Peppers are to have their first four albums re-issued by EMI in January. All of these will have bonus tracks and be remastered. The albums in question are ‘The Red Hot Chili Peppers’ (1984), ‘Freaky Styley’ (1985), ‘The Uplift Mofo Party Plan’ (187) and ‘Mother’s Milk (1989).

This is due to start next Autumn. PRIMAL FEAR REPLACE GUITARIST Primal Fear guitarist Henny Wolter has left the band for personal reasons. He’s been replaced by Sinner six-stringer Tom Naumann.
15	AC/DC PLAN 2003 RETURN According to informed sources, AC/DC are planning to start another lengthy world tour in America next Spring, with their new, as yet untitled album due out in March. This is being recorded in Vancouver. GNR: ALBUM LATEST Although there is still no official word on when fans can expect the long delayed Guns N’ Roses album ‘Chinese Democracy’ to be released, it now seems that expectations it would be in the shops by the end of the year were wildly optimistic. The latest information suggests a February release at the earliest. SIMMONS TALKS ON DVD Kiss’ Gene Simmons is planning to release footage of his recent lecture tour of Australia on both DVD and video. There’s also the possibility of a book and an audio book of this lecture series.
15	DILLINGER ESCAPE IN JUNE The Dillinger Escape Plan are aiming to release their next album, as yet untitled, in June through Relapse. BLINK AND IT'S DIFFERENT Blink-182 are to work once again with producer Jerry Finn on their next album, which is duye for relaese next summer. And the pop-punk trio are promising that this new record will be very different from anything they've ever done before. The album is expected to be more experimental in nature.
15	BON JOVI PERFORM AT SUPERBOWL Bon Jovi are to be one of the attractions during the half time break in Superbowl XXXVII, which happens in San Diego on January 26. This is one of the sporting highlights in the American calendar, and follows the band’s recent performance at Giants Stadium, prior to a New York Giants game. DURST FIGHTS ON! As Limp Bizkit continue work on new album ‘Less Is More’, mainman Fred Durst is taking a brief break to attend the Ultimate Fighting Championship on November 22. And he’ll perform the Limp song ‘Break Stuff’ at this pay-per-view event in America. VEDDER, GROHL FEEL THE POWER Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder and the Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl are to guest on the latest album from a band called Cat Power, which is effectively singer/songwriter Chan Marshall. 16	MEET GLEN MATLOCK Sex Pistols bassist Glen Matlock will be making a special appearance at the Wembley Music And Film Fair on December 1. Matlock will team up with former Small Faces man Ian Mclagan, playing material by the Small Faces. Matlock will then host a session, during which he’ll be autographing various items, including copies of his autobiography ‘I Was A Teenage Sex Pistol’. The Fair happens on November 30 and December 1 at The Wembley Exhibition Centre. On the first day, Paul Di’Anno will be autographing copies of his autobiography ‘The Beast’, while legendary actresses Ingrid Pitt and Caroline Munroe will be there on both days.

17	STEVE WALSH KHYMERA UPDATE: (Press Release) Mike Slamer has also recently completed the mix of the first half of the STEVE WALSH’s KHYMERA record. The tracks completed include “Aftertouch”, “Shadows”, “Living With A Memory”, “Live Without Love”, “Say It With Love”, “Who’s Gonna Love You Tonight” (to be featured on the forthcoming sampler compilation “Rock The Bones”) and “Strike Like Lightning”. Blackmore on getting away from hard rock and into Rennaissance music, "In 1995, when I reformed Rainbow and recorded Stranger In Us All -- Candice and I had been together since 1989 and I knew that she could sing. When we were in the studio with Rainbow she helped out a lot by coming up with lyrics for songs and singing background vocals. But even while we were recording Stranger In Us All, we were writing songs for our own pleasure. We never thought that we would record them- but they were later the songs that we put on Shadow of The Moon. Actually, Ariel from Stranger In Us All was a song that Candice and I had originally written together as a ballad. We may even re-record that the original way it was written at some point. When we started playing the songs we wrote together at one of our parties for our friends and a neighbor came up to me and said "I don't know much about the music that you recorded with Deep Purple or Rainbow, but if you 2 recorded this I would buy it"; that's when I started seriously thinking about recording the songs." Apparently, the Red Hot Chili Peppers will get similar treatment early in the new year. ZWAN SIGN DEAL Zwan, the band put together by former Smashing Pumpkins leader Billy Corgan, have signed to Reprise Records. Expect an album to be issued early next year. 24	SAXON JUDGMENT DAY: (Press Release) This was sent from representatives of OLIVER/DAWSON SAXON, "The ongoing legal action between the original members of the band Saxon has finally resulted in a Judgement regarding the trademark. Graham Oliver & Steve Dawson, now performing as Oliver/Dawson Saxon, have won the action brought against them by Biff Byford regarding the trademark to the name ‘Saxon’. Byford tried to have the trademark invalidated on the grounds of Passing Off and Bad Faith, however the court found against him on both counts. Oliver & Dawson were represented in the case by the manager of Oliver/Dawson Saxon, Rupert Withers, who despite having no legal qualifications, believed in the situation and acted as a litigant in person on their behalf. The result of this case means that the trademark ‘Saxon’ is still owned by Graham Oliver & Steve Dawson. It proves that contrary to certain propaganda stories in the press, Oliver/Dawson Saxon have a legitimate claim to use the name. The timing on the judgement is good, with Oliver/Dawson Saxon having just finished a very successful UK tour with Dio, and with 2003 being the 25th anniversary of Saxon. Oliver/Dawson Saxon intend to continue working hard and will be touring and recording again next year. However this does not mean that Oliver/Dawson Saxon will be changing their name back to Saxon. As Oliver & Dawson have maintained throughout the case, Saxon is the band made up of the original 5 members, and as such they are not attempting to confuse or mislead the fans into thinking that they are the same band. 24	NO MERCY FOR CAMDEN The London date on the No Mercy tour has been switched from the electric Ballroom to the Camden Underworld. This happens on December 9, and includes the likes of Marduk, Immolation, Hate Eternal and Kataklysm. SHAKIRA COVERS ’DC AND AEROSMITH Shakira seems to be something of a closet rock fan. On her current US tour, the singer is covering both AC/DC’s ‘Back In Black’ and Aerosmith’s ‘Dude Looks Like A Lady’! SYSTEMATIC ‘BURN’ California’s Systematic have finally confirmed the title of their new album. It’s to be called ‘Pleasure To Burn’. Produced by Howard Benson, it’s to be issued next year on Elektra.
24	ANNIHILATOR SIGN DEAL Annihilator have finally signed a deal with German label AFM. The band are to release the live album ‘Double Live Annihilation’ in March, followed by a new studio album next September. GNR GO FOR RECORD Guns N’Roses are to make an attempt to enter the Guinness Book Of Records by playing two shows in Philadelphia, at the First Union Center on December 6 and the First Union Spectrum two nights later. The venues are 758 ft, 9.5 inches apart, and the band hope to set a record for the shortest distance between two arenas. ROB ZOMBIE IS DROWNED Rob Zombie has teamed up with the remaining members of Drowning Pool to record a song called ‘The Man Wihtout Fear’ for the soundtrack of upcoming movie ‘Daredevil’, based on the Marvel comic. The film, starring Ben Affleck, opens in America during February.
24	CHILDREN OF BODOM ‘HATE’ THEIR ALBUM Finnish band The Children Of Bodom are to release their new album, ‘The Hate Crew Deathroll’ in late January. This is to be available through Spinefarm. OPETH ARE ‘DAMNED’ Opeth have just finished working on their new album, ‘Damnation’. It’s currently being mixed by Porcupine Tree mainman Steven Wilson, who also produced the record. The band will have Spiritual Beggars keyboardsman Per Wiberg helping them out on their upcoming tour, which includes a show at the Mean Fiddler in London on December, with Akerocke also on the bill. CATLEY GOES SOLO AGAIN Magnum frontman Bob Catley is to start work on a fourth solo album early next year. This time around, the songs have been written by keyboard player Paul Hodgson, who has worked with Catley in the past. Previously, the singer’s solo material was written by Ten’s Gary Hughes.
24	RED DOG NIGHT IN GUILDFORD Four young British bands play the Red Dog Night at the Guildford Civic on November 21. The bands are Thirst, Scarlet Soho, Fish Belly White and Something Generation. Tickets cost £5 in advance from the box office/£6 on the door.
24	WEILAND WORKS ON SOLO ALBUM Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland is currently working on his second solo album, co-producing the record with Josh Abraham. Expect a release early next year. Weiland’s first solo effort, ’12 Bar Blues’, came out in 1998. KISS STARS RECALL EARLY TIMES Kiss duo Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley are to have a book called ‘Kiss: The Early Years’ published by Three Rivers Press at the end of the month. It tells the story of the legendary band from 1974 to 1982, and includes previously unseen photos. BIOHAZARD HIRE TOUR GUITARIST Biohazard will bring in former Cro-Mags guitarist Scott Roberts to help them out on their upcoming UK and European tour. He will temporarily step in for Carmine Vincent, who is recovering from surgery.
24	NONPOINT PLAN THIRD ALBUM Florida’s Nonpoint are planning to start recording their third album in January – as long as they can find the right producer. Talking to TotalRock, frontman Elias Soriano said that this depends on finding the right producer being available. If they can’t, they’ll wait for that person. BERZERKER: DATE CHANGES The Berzerker has slightly altered the dates for his upcoming, debut UK tour. 24	P.O.D IN MUSEUM The original handwritten lyrics to P..O.D’s ‘Youth Of The Nation’ are to be donated to the Rock ’N’ Roll Hall Of Fame, where they’ll be put on public display in the Lyric Room. CONTROL DENIED ‘COLLIDE’ The remaining members of Control Denied are to release an album called ‘When Machine And Man Collide’. The band were, of course, founded by Chuck Schuldiner, who died last December, and he wrote most of the material for the upcoming record. SUM 41’S BONUS DVD In what’s becoming a commonplace occurrence, Sum 41 are the latest band to tempt fans with a bonus DVD. The first pressing in America of their upcoming album ‘Does This Look Infected To You?’ will come with an 80-minute DVD, which will include a mockumentary, outtakes from the video for current single ‘Still Waiting’ and footage of their alter ego Pain For Pleasure.

24	PRIEST DENY MORE REUNION RUMOURS Judas Priest have once again strongly denied reports that they’re about to get back with former vocalist Rob Halford. The latest rumours have suggested a tour featuring both Halford and current singer Ripper Owens, or an album and tour with Halford. Both are said to be totally wrong. BORLAND FINDS A SINGER Eat The Day, featuring former Limp Bizkit guitarist Wes Borland, have found a vocalist, although as yet they haven’t named the person. However, the band are planning to record their debut album in February, with a summer release. PAPA ROACH CHANGE LABEL NAME Papa Roach have been forced to change the name of their label, from New Noize to El Tonal. This is because of legal complications over the original choice.
24	MOONING OVER SOUTH AMERICA Portugal’s Moonspell are to play three shows in South America during early December – one in Chile and two in Mexico. COAL CHAMBER: LIVE ALBUM NEXT Despite recent problems in the camp, it would seem that Coal Chamber are not about to give up. The band are planning to release a live album in the Spring, with three new studio songs added as a bonus, and there will be a DVD as well. The band – vocalist Dez Fafara, guitarist Meegs Rascon and bassist Nadja Puelen – will presumably start the search soon for a new drummer to replace the recently departed Mikey Cox. ANTHRAX IN LONDON Anthrax are to play the Astoria in London on March 14. This is part of a UK tour, with the rest of the dates likely to be confirmed soon.

NEUROTICA SPLIT UP In something of a surprise move, Florida’s Neurotica have split up. No reason has actually been given as yet, but vocalist Kelly Schaeffer is already working on another project. TOP NAMES FOR INFERNO FESTIVAL Immortal and the Children Of Bodom are among the first batch of bands to be confirmed for Norway’s Inferno Festival, which happens in Oslo from April 17-19.

29	PINK IS THE COLOUR Pink Anvil is the name of the new side project formed by Ministry bassist Paul Barker. The band have signed to Ipecac and hope to have an album out early next year. RACER X GET HEAVY Racer X have just finished recording a new album called ‘Getting Heavier’. This is to be released in Japan before Christmas, with the rest of the world getting a chance to hear it next year. The band features ex-Mr Big guitarist Paul Gilbert, Judas Priest drummer Scott Travis and one time Badlands drummer Jeff Martin on vocals. ANTHRAX LINE UP MORE DATES The Anthrax UK tour is starting to take shape. 29	NIGHTWISH PLOT DVD Finland’s Nightwish are currently working on a DVD. This is expected to be released by Spinefarm in June, and should feature promo videos, live footage, plus at 60 minutes of behind the scenes material. More news soon. EVERCLEAR ‘DREAM’ OF A NEW ALBUM Everclear are to release their new album, ‘Slowmotion Daydream’, in March. The record was due out last month, but the release was postponed to allow more recording work. It will be preceded by the single ‘Volvo Driving Soccer Mum’, due in January. A PERFECT SUMMER A Perfect Circle, featuring Tool’s Maynard James Keenan, are now expected to have their second album in the shops by next summer. Work has been underway on the project for some while, with Keenan himself expected to record his vocals early in 2003.
29	RED TAPE LAND DEAL Red Tape, from Sacramento, have just signed to Roadrunner. The band recently worked on a demo produced by Orgy’s Amir Derakh. They expected to record their debut album shortly. LAMB OF TOWNSEND Lamb Of God are currently working on their new, as yet untitled album with producer Devin Townsend. The record should be out early in 2003 on the Prosthetic label. PILOT TAKES A BRANCH LINE Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland is keeping himself very busy at the moment. Not only is he working on a new solo album – his second – but is also producing the next record from Michelle Branch.
29	MONKEY BECOME A WIZARD Former Iron Monkey guitarist Justin Greaves is currently rehearsing with Electric Wizard. Although so far no official announcement has been made, Metal Coven understands that Greaves is to join the band. TOOL FIRE UP Tool accidentally set fire to their dressing room at the Freeman Coliseum in San Antonio, Texas. The band will pay for all the damage caused, which amounts to a few thousand dollars. 29	MY RUIN’S ‘BEAUTIFUL’ ALBUM My Ruin are just finishing work on their third full album, ‘The Horror Of Beauty’, which will be issued early next year on an unspecified label. The band are expected to tour the UK and Europe to coincide with the release. AERSOMITH UNDER GUNS INVESTIGATION It’s being claimed that Aerosmith pair Steven Tyler and Joe Perry were illegally granted permits to carry pistols while in New York last year. It’s being alleged that New York Police Department employee Benjamin Petrofsky might have bypassed the usual firearms procedures for Tyler and Perry in exchange for VIP treatment at an Aerosmith concert in the city. An investigation is currently underway. BEASTIES IN THE STUDIO The Beastie Boys are currently working on anew album. No details are available right now, but expect this out next summer.
29	MARS VOLTA MAN GETS INTO RADIO The Mars Volta’s Omar Rodriguez is to produce the new album from Los Angeles all female band Radio Vaga. This is to be issued next year by the Buddyhead label. MURDERDOLLS UPGRADE LONDON SHOW The Murderdolls have changed the venue for their upcoming London date from the Mean Fiddler to The Forum. This happens on December 7. 29	P5K: NEW ALBUM IN MAY Powerman 5000 will finally release their long overdue new album next May. As yet untitled, it’s being produced by Joe Baressi, and features new recruits bassist Siggy Sjursen and drummer Adrian Ost. This is a revamped version of the ‘Anyone For Doomsday’ record, originally due for release in August 2001. DOG TOFFEE SHOWS Dog Toffee are to support Duane Peters & The Hunns at London Camden Underworld November 27, Sheffield Corporation 28. CREED SINGER ASSAULTED Creed singer Scott Stapp was assaulted recently – by his ex-wife, Hillaree. The incident apparently happened when the pair were discussing issues connected with their son Jagger, and the weapon of choice? A mobile phone. Hillaree Stapp was arrested after the incident.
29	FIREBIRD READY NEW ALBUM Firebird, the band featuring former Carcass/Napalm Death guitarist Bill Steer, will release a new, as yet untitled album in Japan during February. A release in other parts of the world will follow later in 2003. SLIPKNOT MAN GOES TO MARZ Slipknot DJ Sid Wilson will be manning the turntables for Marz on part of their tour with Korn and TRUSTCompany. The tour is dubbed ‘Pop Sux!’, and Wilson will be part of the Marz troupe until mid-December.
29	LOSTPROPHETS HEAD FOR THE STUDIO The Lostprophets are now expected to start work on their second album in February or March, with an as yet unspecified producer. The band are currently working on songs, and are said to have about nine ready to roll. STAIND IN THE SPRING Staind are aiming to release their next album in the Spring. The band are presently in the studio with producer Josh Abraham, and hope to include about 12 or 13 songs on the final track listing. And watch out for possible Staind dates in the UK and Europe prior to the album’s release CAVE IN: BACK IN BRITAIN Cave In are planning to follow up their highly successful series of visits to the UK in 2002 by touring here in February. Dates are likely to be announced soon. The band are to release their first album for RCA, ‘Antenna’, in March. It was produced by Rich Costey.
29	SLAVES ON DOPE: NAME THEIR ALBUM Slaves On Dope are currently in Florida working on their first album for the Bieler Brothers/MCA label with producer Jason Slater, but they’ve yet to come up with a title for the record. And they’re planning to leave it to fans to solve this dilemma. The band will be holding a special ‘Name Our Album’ contest on their new website, www.slavesondope.com, which is to be launched at the end of November. THE PRESIDENTS ARE BACK The Presidents Of The United States Of America are back together. The crazy Seattle trio will play their first reunion show at the Crocodile Café in their home town on New Year’s Eve. This is to be followed by a Hallowe’en show in New York from 1978. GILBY PLAYS WITH GADJITS Former Guns N’ Roses guitarist Gilby Clarke is to produce the new EP from American band The Gadjits. This is to be issued next year on RCA.
29	APARTMENT 26 START NEW ALBUM British band Apartment 26 have just strated work on their second, as yet untitled, album.. The band are working at Peter Gabriel’s studio, Real World, in Bath. As yet there’s no news on which label are to release this record. SILVERCHAIR TOUR AUSTRALIA Silverchair have announced a series of shows in their native Australia, starting next March. Dubbed the ‘Across The Night Tour’, the band will play two sets at each date, with an intermission between the performances. Silverchair hope to follow this up with limited overseas touring in 2003. All this is happening, because frontman Daniel Johns has now made a sufficient recovery from the reactive arthritis that has laid him low for much of the year. North America and Canada are finally within the band's sights as well, with another impressive lineup expected to begin work with Halford in March 2003. “I can’t wait to get on stage in front of our audience,” said Halford. “The band has a punishing set prepared for those willing to step up. TOMAHAWK READY SECOND ALBUM Tomahawk, the band featuring Mike Patton, former Helmet drummer Jon Stainer, ex-Jesus Lizard guitarist Duane Denison and Melvins bassist Kevin Rutmanis, are to release their second, as yet untitled album in April on the Ipecac label. MEGADETH REUNION – NEARLY! Guitarist Marty Friedman is to be reunited with his one time Megadeth bandmates Dave Ellefson (bass) and Jimmy Degrasso (drums) when he tours next year in support of upcoming album ‘Music For Speeding’, which is due out soon on Mascot Records (Europe), Universal (Japan) and Favored Nations (America). The tour starts in March.
