KING CRIMSON TO
REIGN AGAIN: (Press Release) Pioneering rock band KING CRIMSON will
release its new studio EP 'Happy With What You Have to Be Happy With' on
Sanctuary Records on October 8, 2002. It is the band's Sanctuary debut.
King Crimson is led by founding guitarist Robert Fripp and rounding out the quartet are longtime guitarist/vocalist Adrian Belew, stick player/bass guitarist Trey Gunn and drummer/percussionist Pat Mastelotto. The 11 tracks on 'Happy With What You Have to Be Happy With' include: "Bude," "Happy With What You Have to Be Happy With," "Mie Gakure," "She Shudders," "Eyes Wide Open," "Sho Ga Nai," "I Ran," "Somedays Blue," "Larks' Tongues in Aspic (Part IV)," "Clouds" and bonus track "Einstein's Relatives." The studio tracks are separated by a series of brief musical haikus. Fripp has led the band through more than three decades of musical experimentation that completely pushes the structure of rock, jazz and classical music to its limits. King Crimson has enjoyed some measure of commercial popularity over the years, but its fan base is primarily a die-hard cult. Regular touring has broadened the band's appeal, and a recent tour opening for Tool successfully exposed another generation to King Crimson's challenging-yet-rewarding music. Of that tour,
Tool's lead singer Maynard Keenan stated, "I have a feeling kids are going
to come and hear King Crimson and go, 'Tool ripped these guys off blind,'
because it'll be right there for you to see. But we've said that all
along, that we're definitely influenced by this band, there's no Many of the world's finest rock musicians have been members of King Crimson and gone on to their own successful projects, including: vocalist/guitarist/bass guitarist Greg Lake (Emerson, Lake & Palmer), drummer Bill Bruford (Yes, Genesis), saxophonist Ian McDonald (Foreigner), bass guitarist Boz Burrell (Bad Company), bass guitarist/vocalist John Wetton (Uriah Heep, U.K., Asia) and bass guitarist Tony Levin (Peter Gabriel). Members of the current lineup have other notable groups on their resumes in addition to King Crimson. Belew led the Bears and recorded many solo albums. Mastelotto was a member of Mr. Mister and played on countless sessions for other high-profile musicians. Mastelotto and Gunn have both collaborated with the California Guitar Trio as well. 'Happy With What You Have to Be Happy With' marks yet another important step in the fearless, forward-thinking vision of King Crimson. The band will
follow up the EP with a full-length album, 'The Power To Believe,' in
early 2003, along with an extensive world tour. |

Former Metallica bassist, JASON NEWSTED, has officially confirmed his role
as the new addition to original VOIVOD members, SNAKE (aka Denis Belanger) - vocals, PIGGY (aka Denis D'Amour) - guitar, and AWAY (aka Michel Langevin) - drums. JASONIC (Newsted's new given moniker) will also serve as producer for the metal legends' upcoming release on the Chophouse Records label (in association with Surfdog Records). Long-time friends and pioneers of metal music, the four musicians first began working together at Newsted's Chophouse studio in 1995, intent on keeping the music alive between busy touring schedules. However, with his recent departure from Metallica in January 2001, Newsted was free to work on a myriad of projects, which could now be more than just hobbies. With a working title of "THE MULTIVERSE," VOIVOD's 13th release will feature 13 brand new tracks all to be recorded and mixed at The Plant in Sausalito, CA from October 13 through November 13, 2002. VOIVOD first began recording back in 1983, creating an innovative and very identifiable musical style which can best be described as ferocious, progressive metal. And now, on the eve of their 20th anniversary, with the return of Snake (the voice of VOIVOD), they are set to release an album for which anticipation has been building in underground metal circles for years. Newsted - "Those who know Voivod respect Voivod around the globe! This is the new beginning for all of us. We're the same age, raised on the same music. We've been through a lot of similar situations. All 4 of us are having such a good time writing our metal music together, in one room - bashing it out, it's real again!!" Following the Spring 2003 release, the band plans to tour extensively in North America and Europe. |

JETHRO TULL REISSUED!: (Press Release) Hollywood, CA - September 30,
2002 -- On November 5, 2002 Chrysalis/Capitol Records will reissue three
digitally remastered JETHRO TULL albums: WARCHILD (1974), MINSTREL IN THE
GALLERY (1975) and TOO OLD TO ROCK 'N' ROLL: TOO YOUNG TO DIE (1976).
Returning more than 25 years after they were originally released, all three have been digitally remastered and come complete with bonus tracks. The booklets contain brand new sleevenotes written by Ian Anderson, photos, memorabilia and full lyrics. WARCHILD was originally released in 1974 and marked an upbeat development for Jethro Tull, in that the songs are whimsical and lighter in subject matter than their previous darker album - A PASSION PLAY. The bonus tracks on this digitally remastered edition of WARCHILD were recorded at the same time as the original album, but were omitted due to the time constraints of vinyl. Now on CD, they complete the full recording. MINSTREL IN THE
GALLERY was the first album to be recorded in the Maison Rouge Mobile
recording studio in Monaco and continues with the string-orchestrated song
structures of WARCHILD but with more detailed and sometimes more
introverted and serious lyrical subjects. This is probably the most
acoustic of all the Tull albums, integrating the usual rock instruments
with acoustic guitar and flute. Jeffrey Hammond-Hammond departed the band
at the end of recording to become a painter. John Glascock was to replace
him on the bass TOO OLD TO ROCK AND ROLL: TOO YOUNG TO DIE was also recorded in Monaco in the mobile studio, just a few months after MINSTREL IN THE GALLERY. The majority was written and recorded in a ballroom in Switzerland and was intended to be a soundtrack to a musical which, in the end, did not take place. "The Chequered Flag" was actually recorded in Belgium and is an ode to Formula 1 racing drivers. Ian Anderson begins a month of solo tour dates in the U.S. this October. |

Agathodaimon are recently working on their (yet untitled) fourth album
which will be recorded in early 2003. Guitarist Sathonys told the
following: "We'll surely deliver an album that again combines elements of
all previous albums, but also will further show some new elements in our
sound. There's also some sad news this month, as our romanian vocalist
Vlad decided to finally leave the band, as he wants to emigrate to the US
and focus on other styles of music. It wasn't an easy decision, but it's
probably the best solution. It won't affect the upcoming album, as even
the last album "Chapter III" was already written and recorded without him.
But at least it now enables us to focus on the band without having to
worry anymore whether he'll be able to participate somehow on some songs
or not (as he was forced to live in Romania the past years). That's a
slight relief, although it's very sad to see a friend and gifted
songwriter go. But don't worry, we'll keep you up to date concerning his
future activities. And who knows, perhaps we'll work together in the
future in some way..." For a full statement of Vlad check this link |

progressive heavy metal to shine on the US, as New Jersey's own SYMPHONY X
is primed to release their 6th studio masterwork, entitled 'The Odyssey',

Having spent the
better part of 10 years making a name for themselves overseas, SYMPHONY X
have brought the campaign to the homefront, offering an 8-track magnum
opus of intelligent, classically-influenced heavy metal music unlike
anything America has ever produced. Sweeping melodies and technical
prowess define SYMPHONY X's grandiose approach, while the dexterous &
emotive vocals of (Sir) Russell Allen complement each composition Recorded at
Romeo's own home studio 'The Dungeon', 'The Odyssey' also features an
adventurous 24-minute, seven-part epic that shares the album's namesake, a
dynamic piece based on Homer's heroic poem depicting man's undying will
despite all tribulations - an ideal paralleling SYMPHONY X's own history.
The track encompasses the culmination of the 'The Odyssey' will be released in a standard version, as well as a limited edition digibook with bonus features. TWO 'BLACK SABBATH
STORY' HOME VIDEOS TO BE RELEASED ON DVD AND VHS BY SANCTUARY ON SEPTEMBER 24, 2002 BLACK SABBATH pioneered true heavy metal, and a fascinating look into the British band's turbulent history is covered on two individual DVD and VHS releases, The Black Sabbath Story: Volume One and The Black Sabbath Story: Volume Two, coming from Sanctuary Records on September 24, 2002. Each DVD and VHS is sold separately. Each volume includes rare concert and television footage, music videos, in-depth interviews and much more. These titles are being released on DVD for the first time, and they include extras not present on the original VHS versions. They have been reformatted for DVD in the 16:9 letterbox ratio, and the audio has been remastered for both Dolby Digital 5.1 and stereo sound. Bonus features on both titles include animated menus, an album gallery and band history. The Black Sabbath Story: Volume One covers 1970 to 1978, when the original lineup of vocalist Ozzy Osbourne, guitarist Tony Iommi, bass guitarist Geezer Butler and drummer Bill Ward turned rock music upside down with its blistering originality. Albums like Black Sabbath, Paranoid, Master of Reality and Volume 4 are still cited as metal milestones 30 years after their release by successive generations of rock fans. Osbourne, Iommi, Butler and Ward addressed the bleaker sides of life in their songs, and did so on a volcanic musical foundation. This 85-minute DVD includes 10 songs: "N.I.B." , "Paranoid", "War Pigs", "Children of the Grave", "Snowblind", "Sabbath, Bloody Sabbath", "Symptom of the Universe", "It's Alright", "Rock 'N Roll Doctor" and "Never Say Die". One special feature is an in-depth interview with BLACK SABBATH's original manager, Jim Simpson, who describes the band's development. The Black Sabbath Story: Volume Two picks up in 1978 prior to Osbourne's departure and traces the strange periods of all-star, revolving-door lineups up through 1992 during which Iommi was often the only remaining original member. After Osbourne left, he was replaced by RAINBOW vocalist Ronnie James Dio for a brief, turbulent but artistically rewarding period which yielded 1980's brilliant Heaven and Hell. Other vocalists included DEEP PURPLE's Ian Gillan and Glenn Hughes, and Tony Martin. Short-lived drummers included Vinny Appice, ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA's Bev Bevan, the late Cozy Powell and future KISS member Eric Singer. The DVD ends with the reunion of Dio, Iommi, Butler and Appice for 1992's Dehumanizer. The 10 songs on the 72-minute second volume are: "Hard Road", "Die Young", "Neon Knights", "Trashed", "Zero the Hero", "No Stranger to Love", "The Shining", "Headless Cross", "Feels Good to Me" and "TV Crimes". A bonus interview with BLACK SABBATH expert Hugh Gilmour is part of this DVD. The Black Sabbath Story: Volume One and The Black Sabbath Story: Volume Two are valuable historical documents that chronicle the career of one of the most innovative rock bands in history. |

When Ozzy handed his credit card to the guy at the checkout, he asked half- jokingly if he needed to show his ID, but the clerk said, "That won't be necessary. Please give Sharon our best!" |

AGATHODAIMON
As a result of the last-minute venue change for the Kreator/Destruction-Gig in Bristol, the previously announced exclusive participation of AGATHODAIMON at this Halloween-Gig had to be cancelled as the other location doesn’t want five bands on the bill. Therefore also their appearance at Peterborough – “Fiddler’s Elbow” had to be cancelled as the travel to the UK just for one gig became much too expensive; as also the gig in London was cancelled earlier. Nevertheless, the band will try to arrange some new UK-dates in the near future. |

ROUGH CUTT's ORIGINAL LINE-UP TO REUNITE FOR SPECIAL
PERFORMANCE: (Press Release)
They say good things come to those who wait, and for those of who have been waiting for the past decade - the wait is over! The original lineup is back for a momentous night in rock history. On Monday, October 21 at the Viper Room in Hollywood, CA: PAUL SHORTINO (vocals), Matt Thorr (bass), Amir Derakh (guitar), Chris Hager (guitar) & David Alford (drums) will reunite for a dynamic performance. ROUGH CUTT was one of the premier LA rock bands of the mid-80s'. They were taken under the guidance of RONNIE JAMES DIO who decided to work with the band after a showcase. Warner Brothers signed the band when a self produced tape recorded in Paul Shortino's parents home studio landed them a showcase for the label and legendary producer Ted Templeman. The band record two impressive albums - 1985's self titled debut ROUGH CUTT (Warner Brothers) and 1986's WANTS YOU (Warner Brothers). In 1987 Paul Shortino left to replace Kevin Dubrow in QUIET RIOT. There were rumors of a replacement vocalist, but they proved false. Amir went on to a successful career with ORGY in 1997. PAUL SHORTINO recently recorded the album SACRED PLACE with his new project THE CUTT. The album features special guitarists including Jimmy Crespo (Aerosmith/Rod Stewart), Howard Leese (Heart), Brad Gillis (Night Ranger), Carlos Cavazo (Quite Riot) & Lanny Cordola (Mr. Big). For further information and to purchase the album visit the bands website. |

DIO AND OLIVER/DAWSON SAXON MEMBERS ONSTAGE TOGETHER:
(Press Release) OLIVER DAWSON SAXON have been appearing a special guests
to DIO on their recent UK tour, and on the last night, at Portsmouth
Pyramids, a special event took place.
Dio personally
asked Graham Oliver to come onto stage and perform ‘Rainbow in The Dark’
The occasion had added meaning for Graham Oliver. Dio performed at Manchester with Rainbow on October 6th 1976, where Graham went to see him perform. The very next day Graham had his accident, where he lost his finger, and was told that he would never play guitar again. That prophesy did not come true, as is apparent, but what was strange was that the fact that in 2002, the date that Dio performed in Manchester with Oliver/Dawson Saxon was October 6th! So Graham was performing on stage with his hero exactly to the day that he was told that he would never play again. |

ANOTHER SABBATH BOOK AND SUPPLEMENTARY CD:
(Press Release) Rockdetector, the world’s biggest Rock devoted database,
is looking for bands to appear on two compilation CDs as part of their
ongoing book series.
The first is ‘Rockdetector A-Z of 80s Rock’, scheduled for early 2003 publication. Says Editor in chief Garry Sharpe-Young, "This is an important book for us because it sees the book series starting to cover the more melodic end of the Rock spectrum. Previously we have put our efforts into chronicling the extreme side of Metal. Those books have been so successful we are looking at revised versions for the future. For this CD we are looking for bands that either were operational in the 80s or are heavily influenced by that era- bands into a kind of CRUE, RATT, DOKKEN type of vibe. Not so much AOR, that is for a future book. However, I'd like to hear bands getting a bit experimental, I think a Stoner version of 'Shout At The Devil' might be cool! Although the book is called ‘80s Rock’ it does include many bands that formed as late as 2000! There is no fee for inclusion, we will just pick bands we deem worthy. Got some exciting names already lined up." ‘80s Rock’ is a 400 page documentation of the era, ranging from the very biggest 70s acts that blossomed during that period, the Los Angeles Glam explosion right through to artists firmly rooted in that epoch. "I’m proud to say that the fabled Dave Reynolds wrote a good chunk of this book" says Garry. "After all, how on earth can you seriously write up the stories of KISS, ANGEL, WHITE LION and BRITNY FOX without Dave’s input? Dave’s knowledge of this era is just huge and the book benefits hugely from his input." The second book is a history of BLACK SABBATH from 1980 to the present day. (Note from Editor: This is a different book in development than the David Wilson "None More Black" due out next year.") It will include exclusive interviews with many of the major players plus a lot of surprises. Again, an accompanying CD is planned. "We’re looking for something different from bands here" Garry states. "This latter half of Sabbath’s history includes, in my opinion, some of Tony Iommi’s greatest work with such world class vocalists as Glenn Hughes, Ian Gillan, Tony Martin, Ray Gillen and of course Ronnie James Dio. We don’t want straight covers here. We are seeking bands who find inspiration in those songs and are able to give a radical slant on them so expect a full range from AOR to Grindcore. I hope we can pull this CD off because it could be something really special." Interested parties should contact info@rockdetector.com for further information on inclusion. Check out the BLACK SABBATH entry at WWW.ROCKDETECTOR.COM for songs eligible for the CD. |

NEAR LIFE EXPERIENCE UPDATE:
(Press Release) New Orleans has become infamous for birthing a plethora of
eclectic & influential rock bands, ranging from jazz-flavored to downright
brutal. Now, the area can be associated as the stomping grounds of NEAR
LIFE EXPERIENCE and their new masterwork 'Day Of Silver Sun'.
Acting as the
premier release for NOLA-based NoiseLab Records, 'Day Of Silver Sun'
explores the dark side of humanity, while flickering the silver lining
that dwells within us all through heavy, emotive music. Who better to helm
this inventive project than renowned guitarist/vocalist Steve Blaze, a man
who has released no less than 10 CDs through various endeavors and has six
other projects planned for the near future. In addition to NEAR LIFE
EXPERIENCE, the Despite his diverse track record, Steve's latest endeavor possesses quite a modern rock appeal, while harboring tendencies toward the underground with profound groove-laden, doom and aggressive components. "We wanted to make amazing, powerful, dark music that would move mountains," says Blaze. "When I listen to what friends and other people say, I hear Kyuss, Queens Of The Stone Age with a touch of Tool, Type O Negative and Black Sabbath. The music is very emotional and its main characteristic is the melodic vocal style." NEAR LIFE EXPERIENCE was formed in 1995 by Steve and his brother, drummer Craig Nunemacher (notable for his work with Zakk Wylde's Black Label Society and Crowbar). Although Craig moved on to the aforementioned ventures, Blaze pushes forward with guitarist Sam Poitevent, bassist Paul Starnes, and energetic drummer Dennis Papaleo. 'Day Of Silver Sun' is the cumulative result of Steve's multi-faceted influences, and each song reflects a defined maturity. Blaze elaborates, "I think when we first started out, I had so much of this deep, dark emotion in me. I guess the melancholy side of my personality only seems to come forth whenever I get creative. I just think there's a heavier, more "mysterious, ethereal kind of feel to the new album." Along with special Price and Positioning at retailers such as Tower Records, the Transworld Group, Be Bop, Newbury Comics, Waterloo, etc., NEAR LIFE EXPERIENCE is promoting the thought-provoking release with a number of tour dates, including a CD release party on October 18th at Zeppelin's in Metairie, LA! A complete tour of the Midwest and Northeastern US will follow in the New Year. Confirmed dates include: Friday, October
18th Metairie, LA Zeppelin's |

LA
GUNS: STILL MONSTERS
Despite the current confusion over their participation in the upcoming
Monsters Of Rock tour, officially LA Guns are still part of the bill,
alongside headliner Alice Cooper, plus Thunder and the Quireboys. The
confusion has arisen after a statement by band vocalist Phil Lewis on
the official website (www.lagunsweb.com)
that they had pulled out of the tour because guitarist Tracii Guns was
committed to recording with his other band The Brides Of Destruction.
But right now, promoters Clear Channel insist LA Guns are still on the
tour. The UK leg is sponsored by TotalRock, and the compere will be
Krusher.
LA
GUNS QUIT MONSTERS TOUR
Now it’s
official. LA Guns are no longer part of the Monsters Of Rock tour.
According to vocalist Phil Lewis, this is because guitarist Tracii Guns
would rather go into the studio with his new project The Brides Of
Destruction. So far, there’s no word on any replacement for LA Guns. The
UK leg of the tour, which features Alice Cooper, Thunder and the
Quireboys, is sponsored by TotalRock. It kicks off at London’s Wembley

AUDIOSLAVE PLOT SECOND ALBUM
Their
self-titled, debut album isn’t yet out (released on November 18), but
Audioslave are already thinking about their second record. Apparently,
the foursome –Chris Cornell, Tom Morello, Tim Cummerford and Brad Wilk –
have enough material for the album, but don’t expect it to be released
for a long while. However, one thing that can be revealed is that, while
‘Audioslave’ will be on Sony, the follow-up is to come out via
Interscope. This is because of a deal brokered between the two giants
because Cornell is signed to the latter, and the other three – as Rage
Against The Machine – are contracted to the former.

'STEELE' CONSIDERED CLASSICS: (Press Release) New York's VIRGIN STEELE
has made an indelible effect on the heavy metal community, pioneering an
art form that married traditional heavy metal elements with vibrant
symphonic & operatic themes & undertones. The band's importance over these
20 years cannot be denied, though their first 2 albums ('Virgin Steele I'
and 'Guardians Of The Flame') have never been available on CD. Auctions
and collectibles sales eclipse $200 frequently for the vinyl versions of
these rarities, and for years, faithful heavy metal fans have been
clamoring for proper CD releases of these gems. Thankfully, David DeFeis
and Noise Records heard the cries, and on November 26, 2002, 'Virgin
Steele I' and 'Guardians Of The Flame' will see light of day in
re-mastered & restored Compact Disc format, with numerous bonus tracks!
Originally released in 1982, 'Virgin Steele I' had the honor of being the first release ever for the Music For Nations label (they were later followed by the likes of W.A.S.P., Manowar, Mercyful Fate and Metallica). The disc not only served as an appropriate launching point for a band that would forge the genre of symphonic heavy metal, but it captured the energy & spontaneity of American heavy metal in its youth. 'Virgin Steele I' was initially recorded & mixed in less than one week and introduced American bands to a sound heavily influenced by the then booming NWOBHM. The 2002 version of the album boasts the original cover art and features an assortment of unreleased demo tracks, polished original mixes, and demo versions for future recordings! 'Guardians Of The Flame' burst onto the scene in 1983 and exhibited a marked improvement for the band, both in song-writing prowess and recording quality (utilizing 24-track analog equipment). More aggressive and bold than its predecessor, the album proved that VIRGIN STEELE was definitely coming into its own and would continue to evolve. The CD issue includes the tracks from the ever-elusive 'Wait For The Night' EP and an extended version of the exclusive additional track from its European counterpart 'A Cry In The Night'. 'Guardians Of The Flame' also features an exclusive live recording from 1990 of a previously unavailable song, the mesmerizing, bluesy "Blues Deluxe Oreganata (I Might Drown)". Although the front cover is a new interpretation, the inlay booklet graciously includes original cover art for the album as well as the 2 EPs. Restored and re-mastered by David DeFeis, and presented for the first time ever on CD, these works can now be enjoyed with the benefit of full sonic clarity. VIRGIN STEELE is currently preparing some additional end of the year USA performances, before touring Europe at the beginning of the New Year. In the meantime, delve into these 2 nearly lost classics and relive the early years celebrating the glory of a ground-breaking band! |

KISS-ING DOWN UNDER: (Press Release) One of the world's greatest bands
KISS today announced one of the most spectacular concert events Australia
will ever see, KISS SYMPHONY.
At a press conference in Melbourne, Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley and Peter Criss announced details of a one-off concert with the 60 piece Melbourne Symphony to be held at Telstra Dome on February 28, 2003. The event, which has been months in planning, will celebrate the band's 30th anniversary, and will be filmed and recorded, and broadcast via pay per view around the world. "When the Melbourne Symphony teams up with KISS, I promise the result will be no less than a symphonic sonic boom", Paul Stanley said today. "Beethoven and Mozart will rise up dancing with fists raised as we unleash a spectacle that will be both classic and classical. This time it's black tie AND black leather." The idea for the event came from the office of promoter Andrew McManus, who toured the band in Australia 18 months ago. "Once the idea came to us and we presented it to the band, they were in all guns blazing from day one. This will be undoubtedly one of the most incredible concerts Australia has ever seen and will reach fans all over the world, " McManus said. "On their last tour we sold more KISS tickets in Melbourne than in any other city, and that combined with the faciilities at the Telstra Dome led to the decision to hold the concert in Melbourne." The marriage of KISS music and the Melbourne Symphony which we will hear on February 28 will be the result of months of work by conductors, arrangers and musicians, which begins shortly. At today's press
conference, 14 members of the Melbourne Symphony performed two songs "I
Was Made For Loving You" and "I Wanna Rock'n'Roll All Night". Adorned with
full KISS makeup whilst they played, it was a spectacular moment and an
appetising teaser of what is to come! Trevor Green, Managing Director
Melbourne Symphony, said "KISS SYMPHONY is a fantastic opportunity for the
Melbourne Symphony to demonstrate its versatility, broaden its appeal and
reach a different audience. This is an exciting collaboration that will
produce lots of energy and a big sound. We are thrilled to be involved
with this international event. " The Melbourne Symphony has performed with
Elton John, John Farnham, Ray Charles, Frank Sinatra and the Three Tenors
and is acclaimed internationally. The legendary KISS army fans from around
the world are already making plans to travel to Melbourne for KISS

KANSAS' new live concert film, DEVICE VOICE DRUM, will have its world
premiere airing on VH1 Classic on October 25, 26 and 27. VH1 Classic will
air the DEVICE VOICE DRUM concert, in its entirety, several times over the
course of the weekend (all times are Eastern): Friday, October 25 at 8:00
pm, Saturday, October 26 at 6:00 pm and Sunday, October 27 at 10:00 pm.
DEVICE VOICE DRUM, filmed at EarthLink Live in Atlanta, Georgia, is a live concert film recorded for DVD (and also available as a CD); the film features performances of such mega hits as "Dust In The Wind," "Carry On Wayward Son" and "Point Of Know Return." A specially selected career-spanning set list, innovative computer animation and many special bonus features are contained on the DVD, which was two years in the making. The double live CD (sold separately from the DVD) features a live multimedia bonus track not included on the DVD. Both the DVD and CD were released on October 8 by Compendia Music Group; after only its first week of release, DEVICE VOICE DRUM debuted on Billboard's "Top Music Video" chart. Formed in Topeka in the early 70s, Kansas - vocalist/keyboardist Steve Walsh, vocalist/violinist Robby Steinhardt, guitarist Richard Williams, bass guitarist/vocalist Billy Greer and drummer Phil Ehart - has decisively left its mark on rock history with over 30 million albums sold. LEFTOVERTURE, SONG FOR AMERICA, TWO FOR THE SHOW, MONOLITH and THE BEST OF KANSAS are among the band's best selling albums; additionally, Kansas is currently celebrating the 25th anniversary of their landmark 1977 album, POINT OF KNOW RETURN. Kansas appeared on the Billboard charts for over 200 weeks throughout the 70s and 80s; the band remains a staple of classic rock radio, with "Carry On Wayward Son" named as the Most Played Track of that format in 1997. Kansas has played to sold-out arenas and stadiums throughout North America, Europe and Japan, and continues to pack venues throughout the world, playing before nearly 1 million people every year. Highlights of the film include "The Preacher" (from the 1988 concept album IN THE SPIRIT OF THINGS), which features the vocal talents of 60 members of Atlanta's New Advent Choir, and the stirring performance of "Dust in the Wind"; the arrangement - which includes a string section - was based on the version recorded on 1998's ALWAYS NEVER THE SAME with the London Symphony Orchestra. Launched in May 2000, VH1 Classic is a 24-hour network that presents music videos, concerts and music specials featuring classic rock, soul and pop artists from the 60s, 70s and 80s. Featured artists include The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Tina Turner, Led Zeppelin, Marvin Gaye, The Who, Stevie Wonder, The Police and many more. |

| 26 | L.A. GUNS MEMBERS SHOOT IN DIFFERENT DIRECTIONS: Detailed over at LAGunsweb.com, lead singer PHIL LEWIS has written a letter to the fans stating that TRACII GUNS has left L.A. GUNS to pursue other projects thus getting the band removed from the ALICE COOPER tour in Europe. However, Guns responded with a post on the band's message board that he has not left the band but wishes the band would give it a rest because it is threatening to decline its "value", stating that their new album, Waking the Dead, has eked out 10,000 copies sold worldwide at best. He also blames management for deceiving fans about the European tour which he says management knew he could not do it because of prior comittments. As of now, the band looks to do a few more dates with Guns and it is unclear what the direction will be, though Lewis promises to keep the band alive. | ||||

NEW VOLUME CAN BE HEARD
NOW!: (Press Release) Madroad & High Beam
Records announces the release of VOLUME's highly anticipated EP,
'Requesting Permission To Land'. 'Requesting Permission To Land' is part
two of the Volume audio trilogy (part one is the 1998 seven-inch 'Check
This Planet I'm Gone...' on SuperKool Records). The third and final part of
the trilogy will be the full-length album the band is currently working on
(to be released on Madroad Records in 2003).Requesting was recorded with
Mike McHugh (Jon Spencer Blues
Explosion, Train, Rocket From The Crypt) and co-produced by Patrick Brink. "We wanted
a real home grown sound so everything was recorded on two-inch and mixed
down to 1/4 inch two-track" Brink explains."This is rock 'n' roll, not
brain surgery, so we tried to do everything in as few takes as possible" ,
"Mike was really, really good to work with" Brink
Main songwriter and vocalist Patrick Brink grew up in 29 Palms, just outside of Joshua Tree in the Mojave Desert.29 Palms has a total population of less than 7,000.Both the isolation and setting greatly influenced Brink. "Making music was never about what the other people/bands were doing" Brink comments. "Because" he continues "there were no other local bands at the time, and to hear any decent type of music you had to mail order stuff. Half the time I didn't know what I was buying--if it had a strange or cool sounding name I would order it. So we were making it up as we went along." Once Brink moved to the nearby urban sprawl of Orange County he began to sing for Fu Manchu. When he left that band he decided to form Volume.Requesting features Scott Reeder (Fu Manchu, Smile) on drums.Shortly after the album was recorded Tom "Oz" Owsley joined as permanent drummer. Owsley brings his experience with infamous punk band The Sluts (toured with Black Flag, Minutemen) and Red Rockers to the band.Long term Volume member, Jay Christensen and new bass player, Cas (previously in Tummler) round out the line-up. Press has praised Volume's distorted brand of drug-damaged space rock stylings.A writer for Tertangala in Australia enthuses 'Requesting Permission To Land' is the ultimate in acid-induced, ear-shattering heavy psychedelia. HellRideMusic.com notes "Also, kudos to ex-Smile and current Fu Manchu skin slammer Scott Reeder for some very Keith Moon-ian drum work on Requesting Permission To Land." Roadburn.com sums it up explaining "The thing I really like about Volume is the use of vibe as a main part of their songwriting. Each song on 'RPTL' is a fucked up head swim that can be likened to either 50's sci-fi B-movies or 60's LSD-gatherings." Volume are Patrick Brink on guitar and vocals, Jay Christensen on lead guitar, Tom "Oz" Owsley on drums and Cas on bass. The five
tracks on the EP are Visit the
band online at www.volumerocks.com or the labels online at
