Advent ”The Dawn” |
|
Advent is a new and upcoming 5 piece outfit from around Turin in Italy. Their style is symphonic and very doomish black metal. “The Dawn” is the bands first full length album, released by a label in Scotland. Talking about international relations there. “The Dawn” consists of 9 tracks, including all 3 songs from the previous release Valhöll! Here’s an album that is close to being a classic release within its genre. There are a lot of brutal parts on the album but also some with a very symphonic atmosphere. All in all “The Dawn” is a great mix of all the things that makes a great album. Except for the first 3 songs, the entire album is recorded at the Sub Mix Pro Studio in Torino, Italy. I haven’t heard of that studio before, but it’s quite clear that they know how to put music to disc in a highly appreciable manor. There’s a generally good sound all throughout the album. The fact sheet that came with the album states that the genre is extreme metal. Up to a certain level I agree, but I also sense some very strong elements of goth and darkwave. But regardless of the style, Advent has found a darn good way of expressing themselves in a musical way. |
Tight music with some partially melancholic/occult vocals and drums that just pounds away with a rapid pace. A funny thing about the album is the second track – one of those from the previous release. The song is called Valhöll, and the song is apparently written in either Icelandic or Faroese. Check this out: “Hljoðs bið ek allar helgar kindir, meiri ok minni mögu Heimdalar;………..” I have absolutely no clue of what the song is about, but it is surely subject to some degree of research. What is the meaning of lyrics of north Atlantic origin, on a record released by an Italian band? It just makes me wonder…………….. Back to the band – they’ve done a pretty decent record here. It has been a pleasure listening to it and I’m sure they’ll make even greater records in the future. Thumbs up for Advent – they have a good thing going with “The Dawn” |
