Blacklisted "And The Beat Goes On" |

When the Aalborg Metal Festival 2005 published the final schedule, there were a lot to look forward to. Death, Viking, power metal and hardcore. I had my mind set on a couple of good concerts, and I sure was in for a treat. Especially with the hardcore bands, who performed surprisingly and had a firm grip in the audience. So when I received the new Blacklisted release for review, I had high expectations. And I have not been disappointed so far. Hardcore is the wild child in the family of rock. Hardcore is tone of energy unleashed in a song often lasting under 3 minutes. This is what makes the experience of listening to real hardcore such an intense one. There’s a lot of energy to be burned off, before the song is done. Blacklisted is merging violence, honesty and emotional outpouring in each and every song of this 13-trackalbum with a total playing time of just 23:34 minutes. No long stretched ballads here, but sheer fucking power unleashed in your face. You got to have balls to listen to Blacklisted. |
Not balls in terms of gender, but you got to be able to stand up to those guys. Blacklisted is one of the most uncompromising hardcore bands I have heard for a long time. The overall sound is metallic, raw and fierce. This is really what hardcore should be like. One might say that hardcore bands are punks that actually can play. Hey, I don’t have any beef with punks at all, but I just like hardcore more. And Blacklisted might be a little hard to digest, if you’re not into the more extreme genres of rock. The “The Beat Goes On” album contains 13 songs, which to a certain point are alike. At least when it comes to density and power. But besides that, there are many differences. Let me just emphasize one song – the very last one. It’s called “Mother Theresa” – nice poetic name, and that song is instrumental for starters. It also has an atmosphere which made me think of it as a ballad, if there ever was a ballad in hardcore music? The song is mid-tempo and with a slightly depressive atmosphere – a real dark beauty, that one is. I don’t think Blacklisted has performed in Denmark before, so they are probably rather unknown to the broader audience here. But there’s already a solution to that problem. From early January 2006 Blacklisted will embark upon an extensive tour in Europe together with label mates Terror and Donnybrook from the Florida based label Hand of Hope. Check out the tour dates below and – if you’re from Denmark, take especially notice of the date Jan 19th where they will give concert in Copenhagen at “The Rock” |

This is how the band is presented on the label website:
The beat goes on...Whether it's with their
infectious mosh parts, hardcore urgency, or uniquely
powerful lyrics, the true grit of BLACKLISTED will move you unlike any
other present day hardcore band. BLACKLISTED pick up the torch that
contemporary legends American Nightmare once proudly carried. Merging a
violence, honesty, and emotional outpouring into one untamable and
inspiring hardcore machine. Those who listened to "We're Unstoppable" CD
Collection (Refections2005) have witnessed this power first hand. |
