"One More Yesterday" |
|
Diggeth – from Holland – I’ve never heard about them before. So they dispatched a CD up here – 3 tracks and a total playing time of 15:11 minutes. Not a lot, but enough to determine that Diggeth is a band worth attention. Talking about style they’re kind of stoner with their mid-tempo with a stench of melodic trash. I hear a little Helmet, Kyuss and even some Metallica here and there. All in all, pretty darn good names to be compared with. As far as I know, “One More Yesterday” is the bands first release. What impresses me the most is the sound of the guitar. It must be tuned down a lot. It gives a really dark nasty sound. I haven’t heard anything like it since Black Lace. The first song of the record is the title song of the album, which starts up with a guitar intro, while the bass warms up in the background. And 49 seconds into the song, all hell breaks loose and the stoner atmosphere really kicks in. Second song of the album which is called “Heavy Heart” is far the heaviest composition of the album. Melodic bridges and otherwise aggressive verses is the essence of this song, where no holds are barred. I think the vocalist Harald picked up some inspiration from James Hetfield on that one. |
“No Man’s Land” starts in the exact same way the previous song ended. Still mid-tempo with a Hetfield-kind of vocal. There’s a short but awesome guitar solo in the middle of the song, which is also the last one on the album. I could have used way more, but I guess I got to play it again, until a new release is ready someday. The coverart shows an old rusty pick-up with right-side steering. Only the chassis and body is still there – engine and wheels are gone, and the setting is somewhere in the middle of nowhere – some kind of desert with red soil. All in all “One More Yesterday” is an interesting release from a band, who knows how to play catchy yet fierce tunes.
