"Encounter"

Swiss metal up your ass – not something we’re used to, or any other ting for that matter. Swiss metal is somewhat rare and I have only three other bands in mind – Krokus, Annulation and Bequest. And then there’s Gurd who has been around since 94 when they emerged upon the ashes of legendary power thrash band Poltergeist. “Encounter” is the 6th release from this fine unit, where the straight forward groovy bass lines and kick ass guitar leads is in focus. First track on the record is “Razorblade” which is the most up tempo and “thrashy” composition on the entire record. A quite similar song is “Can’t Take Back” in second position on the track list.

And then the record seems to change its expression and attitude a little towards something more aggressive and brutal. Not in a radical way but still a little. Now it sounds more like Kreator and Exodus. I do get good associations from listening to Gurd – these bands that pops up in my mind, is a proof to the fact that Gurd is a well constructed band. Good musicians, good lyrics and last but certainly not least – good music!

“Encounter” is good value for your money, if you dig the sound of brutal guitars and a heavy and pounding rhythm.
