Texas based label Perris Records has released yet another compilation in the “Hollywood Hairspray” series. This record is the 5^th so far, and features the newest upcoming within the world of glam rock. “Hollywood Hairspray 5” contains 16 tracks with bands from all over the world literally: Sweden, USA, Italy, Brazil, Australia, UK, Netherlands and Switzerland.

Even if the bands are, at least according to my taste, belonging to the lighter scale of metal music, the majority of the songs are actually quite listenable and great for partying. When placing this cd in the player and pressing the play-button, it’s like travelling back in time. Glam rock does not have a modern sound or a sound of today or whatever but you got to remember that a lot of great metal came out of the 80’ties and early 90’ties as well. Most of the bands didn’t exist back then, but it doesn’t really matter because they are quite interesting anyway.

Playing “Hollywood Hairspray 5” is like listening to Zodiac Mindwarp, Faster Pussycat and Poison. All bands mentioned are great contributors to my enjoyment of metal as it took place some years ago. Since then, my taste has developed and moved in several new directions, but glam rock is still of interest to me. “Hollywood Hairspray 5” is great for partying Friday night, or when you’re cruisin´ up and down The Strip in your convertible.

The album features Chris Laney from Zan Clan and Animal and Dirty Rig from Kory Clarke and Warrior Soul. Most of the stuff on this cd is new and unreleased until now. The enclosed press material does not mention anything about release date of the record, but since it seems available for purchase at the Perris Records website I can only assume that the record has been released by now.
