Liturgy "Dawn of Ash" |
|
Liturgy plays the most extreme and brutal death I’ve heard for a long time. Actually I never imagined that music could be played with such determination and power. One riff after another – always more gruesome than the previous, and drums that will eventually not last throughout the song. I mean, it sounds like they’re bashed to tiny pieces. But isn’t that what drums are made for? Well, the sound of Liturgy matches any other brutal band out there, and there’s quite a few around. The music appears as unleashed as powerful – totally unrestrained, and it comes at you with full force. So if you can’t stand a kick in the head, stay away from Liturgy. You will eventually feel like been kicked in the head, when pressing the stop button on your disc player. |
The vocals of Liturgy are those of Matti Way, and he’s truly something else. The way he handle his voice, makes me think of a……actually, I can’t come up wit any comparison. He sings very aggressive and distorted – so much that it’s an impossible task, to sort out what the lyrics are. And the booklet provide no help there – only background info on this new band, who has emerged upon the ashes of Cinerary and Brodequin The overall style is extreme and very brutal, and if you’re into bands like Suffocation, Disgorge and Brodequin, Liturgy will probably be a band for you as well.
