The Psyke Project
Daikini |

Danish hardcore outfit The Psyke Project has just released their second release. The album is titled “Daikini” which is a reference to the human in an adventurous world. The music is harsh and rugged and aggressive. The album has a playing time of more than 70 minutes. There are 14 songs on the album, which all have a raw and metallic expression in common. The songs on “Daikini” are somewhat brutal and straightforward. Either you love them or you hate them, because the music is complex and not so easy accessible as other genres. “Daikini” is not mainstream or commercial. The band has succeeded in maintaining a personal expression and touch to the sound. They have probably decided to satisfy their personal needs over the needs of radio stations and such, in need of not so radical tones. You could say that the band dares to go, where few other bands have gone before. At least I haven’t heard anything like this for a long time. I have the outmost respect for a band, which dares to experiment with their way of expressing themselves musically. |
Other reviews has stated that, the album has – especially in the last half, lost a little of its velocity and pace, since the songs tended to slow down, and consist of longer and longer parts - no rapid changes in rhythm or density and such. Well, this is somewhat right, but personally I don’t consider that as a problem, since I seem to feel comfortable in company with this 5 piece outfit. The total playing time of this album is exactly 72 minutes and 13 seconds, and it doesn’t feel like too long for me. The Psyke Project is a remarkable band, with a lot of energy and attitude. And since the release of this album, they have toured Europe intensely. The band was founded back in ’01 and originates from Copenhagen. They have dedicated fans all over Europe, and are one of the leading European bands in the hardcore metal/punk genre. No reason to emphasize a particular song on the album – I like them all equally.
