Scars

The Nether Hell

Metal Coven recently discovered this fine outfit from Brazil named Scars. We have been checking out their latest release “The Nether Hell” which contains 6 songs with a total playing time of approx. 29 minutes. Not a lot, but the songs simply blew me away when I put the cd in the player for the first time. Scars is trash of the most ferocious and intense kind. I’ve not heard anything like it for a long time.

For those of you who have not heard Scars at all, they are in the vein of Exodus, Slayer and Death Angel. Scars is about kicking ass big time and having loads of fun while doing it. The six songs on the album are similar in attitude and crammed with artistic guitar-work and a bass and that make the perfect foundation for a highly skilled band with an attitude you can’t deny. The drummer uses the double-pedal a lot, and I must admit that it suits the music quite fine.

There’s also a lot of impressive guitar-work…….oh, my god, the frets must be red-hot the way they play.

Scars play fast and they play with such authority that I think they are the next big thing down there. I wouldn’t be surprised if they appear at one of the many major metal festivals over the summer. And if they do, be sure to catch their show. They are worth your attention.

The cover-art is also above average. On the front is the Scars logo written with a spiky silver-metallic font and below lots of what seems to be lost souls being tormented! And the rest of the cover shows what happens, if you dare to enter the Gates of Hell.
