"Farmakon"

You can hardly lower the tempo any further, but I don’t mind that. It’s very fitting and a good example for the genre. Funeral Doom is what they call it in the material I got together with the 6^th album on Red Stream. I haven’t met this style before, but can understand why they have chosen it. You really get the hint of the sadness of someone loved is no more. Grand, melodramatic, grusome, moody and everything but fun is the impression I get when listening. I have the feeling the music is even deeper than that.

Funeral Doom is a good label to use for this kind of music and gives people an idea about what to expect and a chance to form an opinion based on my experience listening to Farmakons 6 melancholic and non humorous songs. Not everyone has the chance to look over my shoulder which right now is full of sofisticated creativity and mood. Well knowing this music is powerful in expression and without a doubt contains some elements which you ought to stay far away from if you don’t have the mental load to carry it.

If you’ve got plans to slit your wrists or jump a bridge Farmakon is not for you. If you still chose to listen to the album you’ve taken a step which will be your last. Really would be a shame since there’s so many reasons to keep breathing. Someone with a more academic and sofisticated approach to music would probably say, that I shouldn’t put so much importance into it which is very well may be. But when listing to an album for a critique I have to dig a bit deeper to figure out what it all is about.

You can compare it to a trip in a sailing boat. It’s an experience in itself, but if you dive under the surface it’s a different world. A world which can be just as interesting as the one above waters. It would be a shame not to go through the whole album. Not understood such that songs are left out, but also to find the hidden layers which everyone can sense in one way or another.

Farmakon has to be handled with care. Big sideeffects with too heavy use, but how those materializes in individuals you have to find out for yourself.
